    foxnews.com/politics/biden-set-to-announce-vaccine-mandate-or-weekly-testing-for-companies-with-more-than-100-employees.amp

    cnn.com/cnn/2021/09/09/politics/joe-biden-covid-speech/index.html

"We've been patient, but our patience is wearing thin, and your refusal has cost all of us," Biden said, his tone hardening toward Americans who still refuse to receive a vaccine despite ample evidence of their safety and full approval of one -- the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine -- from the US Food and Drug Administration.

At the center of Biden's new plan is directing the Labor Department to require all businesses with 100 or more employees ensure their workers are either vaccinated or tested once a week, an expansive step the President took after consultation with administration health officials and lawyers. Companies could face thousands of dollars in fines per employee if they don't comply.

An interesting development — one that will surely receive both praise and condemnation. Several states and organizations have already said they plan to sue to stop implementation of the order but precedent does exist for mandatory vaccine requirements via state laws.

I for one am against government making medical decisions for Americans. Is their constitutional authority for such an action?

This is like there being a law against shittiing in the street. Normally such a law would be a local/State matter, but since we have Republicans....

Well, we already know you support forced vaccination by one year in jail, a thousand $ fine and taking people's kids away. Pure authoritarianism.

Generally I prefer letting people do what they want, but maybe aligning incentives a little better (e.g. subsidize fruit and vegis instead of corn syrup).

I was a libertarian in high school. Still, freedom ends at another person's face, or lungs in this case. This is a public health issue. We have to protect people against those who will be irresponsible.

More people will receive a helpful and safe vaccine, and fewer will die or cause others to die by infecting them or clogging our ICUs with the consequences of their idiocy.

I have asked this question of others already, call me lazy if you will I suppose but I have not googled it.

Where does he get the authority to mandate such a thing?

The same place he gets the authority to create OSHA. He can regulate public safety, Many safety regs are Federal, aren't they?

I was unaware Biden created OSHA....

It's blatant power grab, like the CDC mandating an eviction moratorium.

if Republicans overturn this, Biden can just create a new law that 3rd parties can sue corps for not complying and they won't even have to show harm

if tx law can do it, so can Biden

Republicans first, butt the hell out of a women's choice

if they want the government to choose for women, how do they like it if government chooses for them?

this is the government republicans want

Republicanism has ALWAYS been totally repressive and tyrannical. This libertarianism and small government **** is really new, like a decade old at the most. Repressiveness goes all the way back to the beginning though

The only time in their entire history when they relaxed this salient characteristic was under Eisenhower and that was because Ike was very military and very practical at the same time and he wouldn't stand for this.

I've been saying this for years- banning abortion sets legal precedent to force vaccination, sterilization ...and even abortion.

...to which I tend to get all sorts of likes from many of the folks who now support coercing vaccination :steamed:

According to you guys the slippery slope is a fallacy.

Are they 100 million Americans this new mandate applies to all pregnant?

You're trying to conflate the issues but that won't change the facts.

Biden is turning out to be everything you guys falsely said that Trump was.

He is acting now as a fascist authoritarian dictator. And he's turning out to be quite the prolific liar to boot.

You know for someone who is on record as stating he supports forced vaccination by a one-year term of imprisonment and a $1,000 fine and the confiscation of your children you really probably should stay away from the word tyrannical.

That is the parallel I am seeing.
If government can become involved in women’s medical rights they can get involved in everyones.

The people opposed to two choices being made available are the same ones that support a timed choice being made to women and then removed.
Would allowing citizens to sue unvaccinated people for tens of thousands while giving those unvaccinated no legal recourse have been a smarter decision here seeing there is recent precedent?

There is precedent on the state level for required vaccinations. Even very conservative states have vaccination requirements for students — do you feel those are authoritative?

Are the employees that opt for weekly testing required to pay for it? If so, that's not really a choice.
