"In 2020, gun violence killed nearly 20,000 Americans, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive, more than any other year in at least two decades....

"Last year, the United States saw the highest one-year increase in homicides since it began keeping records, with the country’s largest cities suffering a 30 percent spike. Gunshot injuries also rose dramatically, to nearly 40,000, over 8,000 more than in 2017....

"In 2020, people purchased about 23 million guns, a 64 percent increase over 2019 sales, according to a Post analysis of federal data on gun background checks.

"Dunn pointed to this flood of firearms as the most detrimental factor in the fight to curb gun violence."

I think the Supreme Court will be more hesitant to rule against gun control given the rise in gun violence. When so many people are shooting each other the solution is not easier access to guns. More of what is causing the problem in the first place can not be the solution.

"On top of a pandemic that took more than 25,000 lives, New York City endured a soul-crushing crime surge in 2020 — a 97% jump in shootings and a 45% surge in murders."

Attacking the rights of good people only gives killers an advantage. The CO killer was a known, violent criminal. He threatened to kill people and had hallucinations of people looking at him. His purchase was blessed by the system you pushed and now you are blaming the gun. I realize that preventing murder is complicated. Maybe if you were willing to work with your fellow Americans instead of attacking their rights based on the actions of known killers.

Thank you. New interesting information. I mostly repeat old facts which should be shocking themselves. In USA each year there are over 10,000 gun murders and 20,000 gun suicides.

at least 80% of the gun murders involve felons killing other felons or associates of felons. in other words, most murders involving firearms are perpetrated by people who cannot legally possess a firearm. in a country of 300+ million citizens, millions of undocumented illegals, and at least 80 million legal gun owners, 2000 gunshot murders a year is statistically insignificant (and please don't try the garbage that it is not statistically insignificant to the family of a murder victim)

In my opinion, 572,000 gun deaths in USA 1999 -- 2016 is way too many.

In UK, where fewer legal guns are available, fewer illegal guns are found as well. Thus they have lower murder rate then US.

If you want gun sales to drop, you'll have to talk to the politicians that keep promising to ban this and that. They drive the sales.

We need to elect more republicans to stop the record amounts of people buying firearms.

With all these gun crazed Americans shooting each other south of the border, I think Canada should build a giant Wall to keep them contained, and make Donald Trump pay for it. I kid. I kid. Put the gun down.

Your right to keep and bear arms is not contingent on gun homicides in the same way your rights to trial by jury and due process are not contingent on obviously guilty people going free.

The Left is dangerous. County Sheriffs are elected, and so when other officials became deranged and demanded madness to enforce the taking of the civil rights of others, the elected County Sheriff's often said "NO!"

Now the City Police Chiefs report, not to The People but to the City Council, and these are the clowns of some of the Left's attack on our society through "Defund The Police."

We need to consider changing the Chief of Police to an elected position so that they are directly accountable to the voter rather than these crazed city councils.

:applause::applause::applause: WHY they would love to be rid of elected law enforcement officials, they have to answer to the people who elected them, not the people who hired them.

Gun violence isn’t because of the guns, it’s because of the people. The OP stated that large cities had a 30% increase, not so ironically large cities have had a huge increase in violent protests as well. The people in big cities are nuts.
