If that's your interpretation and makes you feel better so be it.

Everyone is offended by everything. The coach probably has a guilty conscience for being a racist himself; so he links trump, the American flag and these kids to being racist.

You'll have to go back and read my earlier posts; that's where I made my position known.

In my eyes, they are different - very different. The social activism, in this case, is focused upon a situation in our society - one that has seen tragic repercussions. The political activism, in this case, is about intimidation of the other team designed to throw off their game. One speaks to a serious issue, the other is mean spirited.

Perhaps you don't see the intimidation attempt. Perhaps you think it is perfectly natural for a pre voting age teen to display support for a president in office. And if you do, we won't see eye to eye or learn anything from one another.

You want 'patriotic symbolism'. Give me patriotic duty any day over so-called symbolism. Voting, reaching out to your elected officials on issues important to you, community involvement of all sorts, jury duty when called upon. Doing those things shows REAL patriotism. Symbolism shimbolism. Anyone can wave a flag, or display a politically charged banner at a sporting event. Which by the way in my view is just plain WRONG.

Promoting patriotism is just like any other advertising situation. You have to get the message out, you have to keep it visible, and you need to insure the messaging supports your need. People live for symbols, they also die for them and do so in heroic and often illogical ways. There is no logical reason to jump out of a trench wave a flag up high in the face of gunfire. Yet people have done it, and others have picked up that flag as the one carrying it is killed in order to keep it up and their fellows following. Remember a countries very survival could hinge on how patriotic its citizens are. As such fostering patriotic belief is a key component of a country and exceedingly important to its continued survival.

Football used to be fun. Now like most everything else it's infected with cancerous politics.

afaik it all started at the Mexico City Olympics.

Colin Kaepernick did not keep politics out of sports. He focused on politics playing a key role in sports. And it cost his career. Now he hawks shoes or other merchandise.

As many times as In my 80 years I have both played in sports along with being a spectator, I never saw it as a forum for blacks to whine at.

Your pseudo-patriotism sickens me. Being American has nothing to do with singing the National Anthem at a sporting event.

Being American means you don't hide your players in the locker room during our national anthem. Glad I make you sick though. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.:)

These are the people we need to provoke. That clown needs to be chased around with flags and pro Trump signs until he quits his job and moves.

Cry babies should be tormented not coddled.

It's because people hate American culture. Some people do. Most of the people participating in this are doing it out of nhilism.

Like trying to express their beliefs, do you think it is ok for kids to wear MAGA hats in mixed company, what about black lives matter hats in mixed company. We should be encouraging our kids to express them selves politically in public, let them argue debate issues and listen to divergent viewpoints.
