    Prisons needs to be segregated depending on the crimes commited. You don't lock up non violent offenders with gangbangers and murderers...
    Non violent offenders shouldn't even go to prison and should be punished in other way like fines or community services.

    Generally speaking I agree and especially if it's tax based financial crimes. The exception with me would be Bernie Madoff types that con people out of their money and ruin lives. Throw them to the dogs.

    Or seize every asset that he and his immediate familly have and limit his income to subsistance level for the rest of his life with real time monitoring. That would be justice since he would now know how the victim has to endure.

    Sorry but I'd throw Bernie Madoff types to the wolves. They ruin lives and are in that sense violent criminals. Others like Manafort that tried to avoid taxes should be incarcerated but as you earlier said we don't need to spend the money per prisoner it takes in a Max security prison on these guys. Minimum security and hgwy cleanup would be fine.
