The African American man kidnapped and forced a white woman to watch a 9-hour Roots marathon to help her better “understand her racism”. Robert Lee Noye, 52, after kidnapping his victim, forced her to “remain seated”. When the female victim tried to move, Noye reportedly said “he would kill her and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago.” For those unfamiliar, Roots is based on Alex Haley's novel and stars LeVar Burton. The series follows generations of Kunta Kinteâ's family from the patriarch's capture and enslavement in Africa prior to the American Revolution to the family's eventual emancipation after the U.S. Civil War. The show has been touted as capturing the struggle of the African American experience. (Though some believe it is more drama than historical fact) Affluent white female liberals–known online by the popular acronym AWFL; almost spelling “awful”–were reported to have forked out around $2,500 on dinner nights hosted by women of color to demystify, learn about, and tackle their inherent racism. Liberal white women are paying thousands of dollars for the privilege of being lectured by two minority women on how racist they are. “Race to Dinner” is a scheme concocted by Regina Jackson, a black woman, and Saira Rao, an Indian American woman, where they spend an evening lecturing liberal white women on how not to be racist over dinner. On their website, they describe their mission as simple, which is to “reveal the naked truth about RACISM in America and UNLEASH YOUR POWER as white women to dismantle it” Now, instead of paying an exorbitant entry fee to deconstruct systemic white racism, it was provided in a free 9-hour dose.
