But it was certified airworthy under Obama's FAA.

As the world awaits the readout from Ethiopian Airlines black box, which is expected Friday, the FAA’s response and the role that it played in keeping Boeing’s 737s in the air are under scrutiny. After the Lion Air plane crash in October 2018, a Boeing software upgrade was expected in January, but the US’s 35-day government shutdown and disagreements between the FAA and the airplane manufacturer delayed it.

So Trump is bad if he grounds the planes and he’s irresponsible if he doesn’t ground the planes.

This is what TDS looks like.

Obama didn’t care about our safety. He must have been getting illegal contributions from Boeing.

You are making that claim. No one else.

Unless someone invents a time machine, it is impossible and inappropriate to claim that the fix would have saved this plane. Hell, we still do not even know the cause of this most recent crash, let alone whether the fix was designed to address that cause.

But there can should be no doubt about the optics of this situation. Trump forced a shutdown that resulted in numerous warnings from Aviation Experts. Warning about the potential threats imposed to air traffic by the shutdown. And now we are learning that fixes designed by Boeing specifically for the plane that crashed were delayed because of the shutdown.

That looks bad. And if Trump wants to take political credit for airplane safety, then he should take political blame for a failure in airplane safety.

And that is what a poor reading of the argument looks like.

I did not criticize him for grounding the plane.

You spin and spin and spin to try to make it seem like Trumps is responsible for this plane crash, and then you sit back feigning innocence "but I didn't specifically say Trump caused it" o_O Sorry, but nobody is buying what you're trying to sell.

    Good.

“A pitch augmentation control law (MCAS) was implemented on the 737 MAX to improve aircraft handling characteristics and decrease pitch-up tendency at elevated angles of attack. It was put through flight testing as part of the certification process prior to the airplane entering service. MCAS does not control the airplane in normal flight; it improves the behavior of the airplane in a non-normal part of the operating envelope.

Boeing’s 737 MAX Flight Crew Operations Manual (FCOM) already outlines an existing procedure to safely handle the unlikely event of erroneous data coming from an angle of attack (AOA) sensor. The pilot will always be able to override the flight control law using electric trim or manual trim.
    https://boeing.mediaroom.com/news-releases-statements?item=130402

Looking at this, which is for a different aircraft:

    http://www.airbusdriver.net/airbus_fltlaws.htm

Now here is the thing, they said the pilot can override with trim, seeing the airbus link, I just picked the first link that popped up: Direct Law, “Pilot control inputs are transmitted unmodified to the control surfaces, providing a direct relationship between sidestick and control surface.” If that is not an option, “Direct Law,” the only option is trim; it is simply a bad design.

Trump did not design the fracking “pitch-up tendency.” If your balsa wood rubber band powered plane does that, you redesign it.

BIG red button, give me fracking control of my damn motorcycle (anticipating the fracking future).

[IMG] 'Redonculous'... Tks for the laughs :) IMHO, the gov. should still be shut down - until bipartisan support, re. funding, for our illegal alien crisis is met... 'Circular reasoning' - "tail wagging the dog" is the best form of comedy & fodder for derision... OP did well here, lol...

Speaking to Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer in the Oval Office, Trump said on December 11, “I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck. … I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it.”

Sadly for the Elephant, Trump rolled back restrictions of bringing "trophies" from elephant kills back into the country, putting these beautiful majestic creatures at higher risk.

Are you absolutely positive that this is not all part of Trump's plan? After all, Trump ordered Boeing to ignore all the pilot's warnings to Boeings management that there was a software flaw in the design of that aircraft. I read that on Al Gores internet. Maybe this is all Al Gore's fault.

Yep. Trump: "I'm going to jump off the cliff if you don't give me my way."
Tragic that he helped kill those people. Yep.

If, anything, a lull in production should have been a 'boon' for Boeing .... re. safety updates (if U know how the company functions)

    I’ve read about it. But...

The new policy does not mean that all trophies will be automatically permitted, officials said. The applicants will have to meet the same conservation and sustainability requirements as before.

You are right. That was snarky and it did not need to be.

I do not have any sympathy for people unable or unwilling to discern the difference between my argument and the strawman of me blaming trump for the death of those 170 people.
