Most people do support strategic fencing at the border, however a $25 billion border wall project is taking things to a whole new level. To put that into perspective, if the Hoover Dam were built today it would cost $750 million. A $25 billion wall would be one of the biggest infrastructure projects in US history, and one that does not generate any power or revenue

Just as saying you support investing more in infrastructure shouldn't mean supporting any and all projects regardless of the expense, the same should apply for support for border security. Enhancing border security shouldn't exclusively mean supporting a $25 billion wall.

Yep, physical barriers where they make sense. The barriers have to be bolstered with technology and personnel. Then, something must be done about the magnets which attract illegal immigration.

I have to play Devil's Advocate though. If a physical barrier were enough of a deterrent, it'd be worth the investment. The return would be in savings.

Nothing burger. Everyone thinks that a barrier system IN STRATEGIC LOCATIONS is a good idea. Most of the strategic locations already have a barrier system.

Nothing in the story suggests that this equates to support for Trump's stupid wall.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Trump's border wall on the U.S./Mexico border is estimated to cost $5.7 billion - which sounds like a lot, but is actually a small amount compared to the federal government's entire $4 trillion budget.

According to KHQA, the border would cost the 328 million tax paying residents of the United States about $17 each.

“It may seem like a lot of expenditure, but compared to Social Security expenditures, Medicare expenditures, defense expenditures, which comes out to hundreds or even thousands of dollars per person it’s not a large amount,” said Pete Sepp of the National Taxpayers Union.

Democrats in Congress are refusing to allocate any money for the wall, instead offering $1.3 billion toward border security.

Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) told KHQA, “We have the responsibility to be guardians of taxpayer money in responsible way this is a colossal waste for money.”

    Political FACT
    • In July 2016, Bernstein Research, a firm that analyzes material costs, put the price tag at $15 billion to $25 billion, for a wall that stretches 1,000 miles and is 40 feet high, which was Trump’s initial desired height.

    • In January 2017, Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said the wall’s cost would be $12 billion to $15 billion.

    • In February 2017, a leaked report from the Department of Homeland Security put it much higher, at $21.6 billion.

    • In April 2017, the Democratic staff report cited the nearly $70 billion cost.
During his campaign, Trump initially said he could build a wall for $4 billion and later estimated $6 billion to $7 billion. In April 2017, he put it at $10 billion or less.

omg... what is it about Trump that makes people take everything so literally?

Do you really believe what you just said, that because Trump said 'a' wall then it literally has to be a continuous wall from sea to shining sea?

    you people are nuts

Its obviously a slogan. 'The Wall' vs 'a semi-continuous system of multi-faceted strategically varied barriers' or w/e. Gimme a freakin break....

Realistically speaking, immigration enforcement is a part of the overall expense of immigration. There are methods proposed for reducing the cost of immigration and improving the benefits it brings, but immigration enforcement isn't one of them

My best friend was a pilot for United and one time he told me something I had never considered before: the biggest problem humans have is communications. I've always heard trump refer to a wall. I should have known better because he has difficulty even speaking in complete sentences.

The Border Agents know walls work. That's why they want them.

Chuck and Nancy know walls work. That's why they oppose them.

    Trumphaters understand Trump just fine.

They just can't admit it when what he's doing is good for America.

How many Democrats congratulated Trump for wiping out the Caliphate? For record Black and Hispanic employment? For raising the economy out of anemia?

Democrats prove the truth of my signature daily.

From your own link attacking the men and women protecting our borders.

"corrupt agents represents less than 1 percent of CBP’s 44,000 sworn officers"

What s discusting argument you try to present by attacking these people and I'm sure you hate all cops too.

It’s clear the experts support the wall. The left doesn’t want to listen to the experts

The five billion Trump is asking for won't cover the whole border and will barely cover strategic locations so you must be for democrats funding that.

The leader of the union representing U.S. Border Patrol agents says there doesn’t need to be a full wall along the United States-Mexico border. Instead, he argues, there needs to be a barrier in “strategic locations.”

“We don’t need a great wall of the United States. We do not need 2,000 miles of border wall. I will tell you, however, that a wall in strategic locations is absolutely necessary,” Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, said, ABC News reported.

I believe pretty much everyone agrees with that assessment.

The paltry five billion Trump is asking for is for strategic locations that border guards say are necessary

The walls in a bank vault don't generate income. They protect it. As often explained the revenue saved by reducing the number of illegals will easily pay for the wall.

Yes, border security isn't entirely a wall. But the wall is a neccesary part, which is why the left opposes it.
