"At least six of the victims were students and two were school employees, local authorities said. The attack took place early in the morning in the municipality of Suzano, less than 30 miles from the state capital. Another 15 people were reported injured in the school of 1,000 students, G1 news site reported....

"Bolsonaro rode to victory last year with a tough law-and-order talk that appealed to Brazilians worried with rising crime rates. A decree making it easier for law-abiding citizens to own a gun was a key campaign promise."

It doesn't sound like the NRA "solution" is working out very well for them.

Unless there is actual evidence that the individual who committed the shooting, did legally acquire a firearm as a result of the relaxed restrictions, the above incident means absolutely nothing. If the firearm was acquired prior to the relaxed restrictions becoming official, the above incident means absolutely nothing. If the firearm in question was acquired illegally, just as thousands of others used in crimes in the nation of Brazil have been, the above incident means absolutely nothing.

Even if the firearm in question was obtained legally, the obvious question of "so what?" must be asked. What ultimate, meaningful difference does such make? The laws of the state of California did nothing to prevent its recent mass shooting from occurring. Short of a total firearms prohibition and subsequent confiscation, under penalty of death for noncompliance, there is nothing, literally nothing whatsoever, that can be done to prevent mass shootings from occurring.

Shootings involving multiple deaths were not unusual in Brazil a year ago (before Bolsonaro).

Question: Do we have any information that the gun that was used here had been obtained legally? I'm thinking one of the family members were probably a drug gang member and the kid got it from them.

Want a bit of context for understanding Brazil... watch the film ‘City of God’ currently available via Netflix. A film that says a great deal that can also by applied in many cities in the US.

Yes before the changes it was illegal for kids to own guns and murder was unheard of.
