Yawn ... Cops watch impassively as a guy drowns. WTF????? To serve and protect???
To save a life??? Are you looking for consequences??? Where is the outrage? They will watch us die alone unloved. You could be in a little bit of a danger!!! I thought cops had easy jobs!!! [sarcasm] I guess they have very difficult jobs!!!

Cops arent trained or equipped for water rescue. Water rescue requires special training and equipment because its more likely to result in both the victim and the rescuer drowning when attempted by an average joe. The cop should've gone to find a rope or something floaty instead of yelling at the guy. But he was wise to not try and swim out to him. They'd likely both be dead right now, and I'll bet a large stack of money you havnt made any posts about hero cops that died trying to save people.

Cops are not obligated to save a persons life. Especially if their own might be put in danger while doing so.

There is no outrage because the guy was an idiot and a candidate for the Darwin Award.

This is a snowflake excuse.. I have seen ordinary civilians rescuing people on the beach. I have even seen teenage lifeguards rescuing people. Nice cop-out, though.

    Utter bullshit.

Maybe they're right and it is time to defund the police and start a new agency.

Should a cop run into a collapsing burning building to save a guy that purposely ran in to burn himself alive? Nope. You know how easy it is to drown someone when you don’t care about your own life? Really easy.

This wasn’t an innocent child who accidentally fell in.

Here’s where they tried to save a drowning person. The cop died.

    Another one:

Another cop dying while trying to save a person:

    https://www.wltx.com/amp/article/ne...aving-suicidal-woman-from-river/101-395810336

Notice how these happened in bodies of water?

While I’d rather people not die when cops are around, one can’t expect them to jump into water geared up. They’ll probably die too.

Not utter bullshit. Its beyond selfish to ask others to save you when you put yourself into a dangerous situation. Additionally the only one responsible for your safety is yourself. Remember, when seconds count, cops are only minutes away.

And that is their choice. Just like it is the choice of a cop. Neither one has to save anyone.

It's their job. Or at least it used to be. Now they're just useless expenses. We'd get better value if we put them to digging ditches or something.

They were not minutes away, they were standing right there.

The cops have been suspended, which is the right call. This kind of behavior tends to turn pubic opinion against cops (unfairly)

When I'm cutting I swim on average 32 laps a day or a little over a mile.. The way the guy was swimming away, I'd have let him "DO HIS THING".. Not as easy as people think to swim a distance then grab on to someone fighting and or freaking out and drag their dumb ass and yours back to shore..

    Arm chair hero's ;)

this is the first video that I saw where you heard one mention turbines nearby. A photo that I've seen also shows warning floats before a dam or "turbine"

Given that, without any safety gear, do you jump in and also get caught in the current? This is a moral question, not a legal one.

Supreme court has ruled that police have no duty or obligation to protect anyone other than themselves, and those in their custody. That they commonly use the slogan "to protect and serve" is false advertising.

It's never been their job. Cops generally only show up after a crime happens. Their job is to find out who did the crime and then put that person in jail/prison.

Now, you can of course go through with your "idea" of putting them to dig ditches. But then crime will run rampant and you won't have anyone to put criminals in jail/prison. Your choice.

Yep, they were right there. Doesn't mean that they have any sort of obligation to help others. And while they may have been suspended, nothing will actually happen to them.

How do you know? Maybe the PD in question has higher expectations for their officers. They might have to apply for new jobs. In Texas maybe.....

I heard you the first time. Maybe the PD in question has higher expectations / standards for their officers. Lot of things are not crimes or against the law, but will get you fired anyway.

If they have such high expectations that they would fire someone for not risking their life for someone who purposefully went out to the deepend and as a result fires these cops, then every other cop will be resigning/quitting from there. No one expects to work at a place where they demand you risk your life because of the stupidity of another human being that put themselves in such a situation.

So, no, they won't have such expectations of their officers.

Good to know your own limits and live.. The post above is the single biggest reason people drown in the first place! Acting on someone else's expectation, ya, that's the dumbest way to die!

Why would crime ran any more rampant than it already does? You just said they don't show up til it's over.
