It's merely a Nobel prize. No need to take it very seriously.

OK. I'll take the bait. Why didn't Martin Luther King Jr. deserve to receive the Nobel Peace Prize?

It's just a nomination. It could become a forgotten footnote in history.

Do you think that the Emotional Leftist is trying really really really hard to play it down?

Oh I don't, believe me. Obama received one, after all.

I'm pretty sure that Progressives will, however, take it seriously. On the inside. On the outside, they'll keep saying things like:

"it's nothing, just a Nobel. who cares"

it's not "Mission Accomplished" yet, if he gets a deal better then the Iran deal like he promised, give him the award

let's make sure this is not like Trump's "Mission Accomplished" of Puerto Rico, Trump claims Mission accomplished and then walks away and nothing gets done

Doesn't matter. The nomination is sufficient to send a few Progs nuts. That's worth Trump's weight in gold.

I was confused when it was announced Obama got the Peace Prize, it was very early in his administration and I sensibly wondered what had he done to win the award. Most people told me it was because of the hope he inspired, he was turning a page of US history, ushering in a new era when the US would cease interventionism, embrace old foes and end the belligerent pursuit of greedy US interests. It didn't turn out that way.

Trump's recent nomination follows his summit with Kim and the prospect of denuclearization, a peace treaty, reunification and development, these are still just "prospects", but they do seem more likely to be achieved than what it was hoped Obama would deliver when he got the Prize. I think they should wait until some major accomplishment of the deal, if international inspectors certify the destruction of North Korea's nuclear weapons, or if a peace treaty that formally ends the Korean war is ratified, then it could be said Trump earned the award.

I think everyone agrees eliminating North Korea's nukes in a deal with Kim merits the Nobel if this is verified, we just need to wait and see if Kim and Trump can bring this to fruition.

Another poster pointed out that its just a nomination, and no prizes are awarded until next year. Hopefully by then we'll have a much better idea how this all should play out.

I suspect if i lived in Seoul I would feel a little safer. Just a little.

At this point it's just a couple of Viking legislators fading the crowd, probably to get name recognition.

imo if it goes to the Nobel committee they will table it. It doesn't fit the narrative.

I doubt that too, as this meeting did not rise to the level, BUT, if he pulls it off and gets Kim to sign a deal better the Iran deal, he deserves one

At least Obama got it based on merit, wasn't begging and conniving for it like Trump, who's looking for a feather to put in his cap

So, far Trump has only shook hands with a murderous dictator, saluted an enemy general and talked(without substance) about giving concessions

to PNK, in exchange for... Oh, that's right, N. Korea already stopped nuclear testing, because site is unstable after sixth nuclear test.

What merit was that? He won it for his promotion of nuclear nonproliferation, yet during his term there was only proliferation.

Where was Trump begging for it?

Got an example or just making up as you go along?

The important thing is to work forward to an agreement, hopefully treaty status for ratification, but at least something that gets voted on in congress. Compared to the task ahead the Nobel is insignificant.

But Trump could do a deal all on his own now:

Obama set a precedent with the Iran Deal by doing it only on his presidential authority. There was a lot of opposition, and no approval from the senate or congress. He was able to do an end run around constitutional requirements for senate or congressional consent by making the deal as a political commitment instead of a binding legal obligation. Iran never signed.

I don't think Trump will do that, but he could. The next president could cancel it by executive order, however.

Article II, Section 2, clause 2 was put into the Constitution to keep a president from having the power of a king.

That's all I'm going to provide, you can actually gather information yourself with some effort. No need to have it spun, filtered and spoon fed to you by some media outlet that is named after a small mammal.

Trump isn't dealing with Kim to get a Nobel, it was Kim who asked for the summit! Success at the summit does indeed deserve the Prize, but that's now what got Trump on this track.

Obama had that black thing down to a T. He could fool you into thinking his mom was black.

A good psychopath can do that.
Get caught in a lie and still land on their feet.
That's what Dr. Carson diagnosed Obama and I concur

And a psychopath only cares about, themselves
using other people to further their only goal.
    Even a nation.

I would sure like to know how much Obama's wealth
improved since his presidency. Can't match the Clintons' fershur.
Selling themselves for donations to the foundation. How convenient.
Harry Truman was so poor on retirement, Congress gave him a special retirement.

Earned it by..... attending a "negotiation" primarily initiated by South Korea and China, at which the "world's greatest negotiator" achieved NOTHING. No verification of compliance of de-nuclearization, no dates for compliance, stopping military exercises with S Korea which were a show of force, stating that the citizens of N Korea "love" Kim in light of the fact that he runs one of the bloodiest regimes in the world......on and on. I'd say that trump proved that in the end he was a witless and feckless negotiator compared to Obama's reviled "Iran Negotiations". Good job, donnie. You deserve a sponsored trip to the Golden Arches.....

I'm confused. If anything this describes our narcissistic POTUS to a "T". You can precede "....path" with just about anything and it describes trump as in a dictionary post. Psychopath...sociopath...lost on the path...
