WNBA star Brittney Griner pleaded Monday with President Biden for help getting released from Russia — saying, “I’m terrified I might be here forever.”

Yikes. When your future balances on Sleepy Joe remembering you... you are in some serious trouble. I feel bad for this young black gay woman who's old, white , crusty leadership is failing her so bad. Many of the excuses I've heard on the left, like we will see in this thread, just don't cut the mustard in my opinion. It's terrible how poorly our leadership, imo, represents this multicultural demographic we call America. 2024 can't come fast enough for the Griners, and many other Americans.

Suddenly she found meaning in the Fourth of July all while her conpadres have been blasting this country. Wait until she finds out Russian courts have a 99% conviction rate.

Why would Putin do Biden any favors when Biden is arming his enemy?

From what I heard it was the Russian media who floated that idea and it was shot down by someone.

Time will certainly tell. However I do find it slightly troubling that Griner is now in the class of citizens that include "the merchant of Death" .

That's the problem. They want a dangerous world-class criminal in return for a nothing offender. But from what I've heard reported they are working the deal.

There musta been a deleted post you responded to because I don't see that at all. In fact, seems to me said posters or whoever want her to stay. Actually, I think that might transcend political boundaries in that many people of every political stripe want her kept there. Finally, someone has united the country and it's this imbecile! :roflol:

I've said this elsewhere - I think there's a growing sense of anger at the entitlement that this moron showed when she went to Russie with enough weed to trigger the arrest - heck, to go there at all, especially since she'd been there before and knew the rules. I believe that's why you have people on the left who SHOULD want that dim-bulb Biden to negotiate for her return because they see this idiot thinking that her fame will be enough to get her outta trouble if she skirts the laws there, not realizing that she ain't that big a fish.

I guess if Putin really wanted to end this and be rid of her AND humiliate her and the US in the process is say "Hey Biden - you can have Brit back. Give with twenty bucks, that's the going rate for women like her, da??" Or heck, remember THIS story? Putin could say "Da, most women go for twelve cows, we give you to her for seven. Deal, da?" It's not like he cares about some feminist or racial backlash in his own country - but having Biden pay up to get her back would be a slap in the face for both him AND Brit. I can totally see Putin doing that. I mean like Biden is gonna say no?

At least the good news for Biden is that he wouldn't even remember making the deal the next day much less who she is so there is that.

The best thing for her is for Biden to stay out of it so she doesn't become a pawn in a political wiener measuring contest. She would be much better off if someone like Jimmy Carter took up her cause.

if we are gonna attack other countries for it, we need to make it legal here first

"American Basketball Star Brittney Griner ‘Wrongfully Detained’ Over Cannabis In Russia, U.S. Says While Maintaining Prohibition At Home"

    https://www.marijuanamoment.net/ame...s-says-while-maintaining-prohibition-at-home/

"But while the State Department has now formally designated Griner’s case as a wrongful detention, the Russian charge itself is still consistent with the U.S.’s own federal laws prohibiting marijuana—an offense that could similarly result in a conviction and incarceration in the American athlete’s home country."

I’m still stunned that Russians are entertained by girls basketball. Imagine all the things you’d watch before that, it’s incomprehensible.

please keep her, we have so many more mouthy idiots here.

NOPE! if America was to get him back here, he'd just bash and kneel at the The United States Anthem like most Liberal athletes and scream that were a horrible racist country. Do your 10 years and learn from your mistakes that America is the best country in the world and that your Black privilege isn't going to allow you to smuggle drugs into Russia and skirt on on penalties, because you're a Black transexual professional basketball player. It would be ironic if Donald Trump get's elected President again in 2024 and manages to work out a deal for Griners release in 2028.

In the United States, a Drug smuggler can be sentenced to 10 years to life in Prison, so what's the issue with Russia enforcing it's Drug laws.
    https://federalcriminaldefense.pro/federal-crimes/drug-smuggling/

If you are convicted of drug smuggling in federal court, you could face a potential punishment of 10 years to life in prison and up to $5 million in fines, though there are certain circumstances that can significantly increase the criminal penalties resulting from a drug smuggling conviction. For instance, under 21 U.S.C. § 960, if death or serious bodily injury results from the use of a smuggled substance, the punishment increases to 20 years to life in prison and a fine of up to $10 million. If the defendant has a prior conviction for serious drug felony or serious violent felony, the punishment increases to 15 years to life in prison and up to $20 million in fines. Furthermore, drug smuggling is subject to the federal sentencing guidelines, which impose minimum and maximum penalties for the most serious federal criminal offenses. The minimum sentence for a drug smuggling conviction under the federal sentencing guidelines is five years for a defendant without a prior conviction and 10 years for a defendant with a prior conviction, and the law indicates that “No person sentenced under [21 U.S.C. § 960] shall be eligible for parole during the term of imprisonment imposed therein.” That means, for a drug smuggling charge, you could be sentenced to a minimum of five to 10 years in prison without parole.

Drug smuggling may also be charged as a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 545 (smuggling goods into the United States), which states that any person who “fraudulently or knowingly imports or brings into the United States, any merchandise contrary to law, or receives, conceals, buys, sells, or in any manner facilitates the transportation, concealment, or sale of such merchandise after importation, knowing the same to have been imported or brought into the United States contrary to law—” is subject to a potential punishment of up to 20 years in prison. Because of its association with other criminal offenses and unlawful acts, like money laundering, organized crime, racketeering, violent crimes and terrorism, drug smuggling is often charged in conjunction with other crimes, and any additional charges tacked onto a drug smuggling charge can result in increased penalties upon conviction.
