In England, alcohol is sold in grocery stores and Off Licenses (liquor stores)...
You can't buy alcohol until you're 18, and you can be served alcohol (in a restaurant) until you're 16.

There's more at the supermarket here but this is typical of how we buy booze in Europe with our groceries.

In Sweden, alcohol-sale is entirely monopolised by the state (apart from light beer with 3, 5% alcohol that can be found in grocery stores, gas stations etc). These Soviet-esque liquore stores have the crappiest opening and closure times and I hate absolutely everything about them.

You have to be 20 to buy alcohol from the state, but the drinking age is 18.

In City of Westminster where my LTD is (UK LLC)... They stop selling alcohol in off licenses at 11 (or midnight)... Just up the road in the London Borough Camden (like a 5 minute walk) Denmark Street way, they'd sell you it, might charge you more (I forget where did that) but they would.
In the London Borough of Lambeth you've got 24 hour licenses and in my home borough, The London Borough of Croydon, we have late night licenses, and the latest off license in my neighbourhood in the borough closes at 4 am.
There are 24 hour ones too, just not here, my closest one (I have used) is on London Road, Croydon.
    I haven't tried Dial-A-Crate yet.
But I'd bare them in mind if I ever want to throw any big parties or events.

In the neighbouring neighbourhood on the border between Croydon & Lambeth touching the town over.
(In Norbury, as you approach Streatham, going towards London on the A23)

A friend of mine who I went to school with who came to England from Somalia told me once, he was shocked how many pubs and bars there are here - I told him I hadn't really thought about it before.

This goes without saying, but I'm a say it anyway..
You go to an Asian Supermarket, like Wing Yip (big UK Asian Supermarket/Cash & Carry)...
You go to an Asian Supermarket, you get Asian beer, and wine and Sake in their alcohol section. Like rice wine and all of that. 8)

In Amsterdam I saw pot and shrooms for sale as well as a supermarket that sold booze like I get at home, so, in all honesty, as liberal as the UK is, I've seen a more a liberal world.
In Pennsylvania I heard tales of special places to buy beer not in a super market, but you can grab your own cigarettes and put it in the cart/trolley.

Booze and gambling are 21 or over here.

Strip tease joints are 21 and over too.

Voting and concealed weapon permits are at 18. But daddy or someone else has to buy you your pistol -- 21 to buy handguns.

Booze is good for you. The Russians have shown that it cleans out your arteries.

    Beer makes you fat though.

    Dope is bad for you.

I've wanted to go to Oregon BEFORE I found out they have recreational marijuana in Oregon.
In all honesty, I want to go to Eugene/Springfield for 2 weeks and have a weekend in Portland (because I'm from London and I want to touch base with city life)..
Then I found out they had recreational dope, I'm sort of wanting to go more now.
Amsterdam was great, wish London had that.
