Is it possible to embrace the liberal doctrine while still acting as a Christian in life?

For me I see far too many differences for someone to be both.

Sure you can go to church once a year on Easter and call yourself a Christian but you really aren't.

So can you be a practicing liberal, believing what they do, and also believe in what God says and avoid conflict there or must you change the teachings of God to fit your ideology?

I am almost positive Jesus would be a liberal. Liberals are very kind and compassionate to help the homeless, poor, and mentally ill. Although this is somewhat of an irrational thing to altruistically help strangers from an evolutionary perspective.
I find Republicans more selfish and competitive although everyone has to look out for themselves and it is a rational way to look at things.
Although these are just stereotypes and the people in these groups vary widely.

There are things that seem incompatible with both the left and the right and Christianity, and Christians on both sides makes excuses. Hell, just look how many conservatives try to publicly admire both Jesus and Ayn Rand at the same time, or look at they way they treat immigrants. Both sides claim that their religion is intertwined when it is convenient and both try saying that there needs to be some separation between religious and political life when it is convenient. As a recent example: look at Christian supporters of Trump. There is nothing about the man himself that is compatible with their religion, so his Christian supporters excuse their support of him as being expedient and useful.

Look at that liberal Trump, he only goes to church during a campaign season and yet has the audacity to call himself a Christian.

Yeah, they're great at helping those people stay homeless, poor and mentally ill, especially when they can get rich doing it.

Christ is a total liberal socialist. I don’t get the point of this question.

That’s sort of nonsense isn’t it? If someone was truely liberal why wouldn’t they call themselves that? Just because other groups decided to propagandize against and change the meaning of it?

That's the point, most of the people who call themselves "liberal" aren't, but it sounds better than leftist totalitarian, which is what they really are.

    What did Jesus say ?

    John 18:36
    King James Version (KJV)

36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

    Mathew 22: 15 -22
    King James Version (KJV)

15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.

16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.

17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

    Jesus was apart from Politics.

Both Religion and Politics are a construct of mankind and divorced from true Faith and Spiritualty.

No, I brought up a different point. If someone is actually liberal diffinitively, but the rouse of propaganda has changed the meaning, how should that person identify? Just make something up?

Your initial perspective gives incredible clout to propagandists in redefining words for their convenience. Which by all measures is an authoritarian agenda.

For crying out loud. The ignorance is astounding. "Liberal", "leftist totalitarian". Stupid political prejudice and a heaping of literalist fundamentalism is what this thread is about. Being a Christian and being a progressive (which is a term I don't like, it reeks of self-importance and an abundance of smugness) are not mutually exclusive. To think they are is a display of massive ignorance. This question is facile, childish and stupid.

Liberalism seems to be indicative of a deeper thought process when those that bandy about the label as attempted insult are considered, I have almost come to enjoy being called it at this point because it carves me out from the individuals who call me one. In many ways Christians do this as well with an Atheist so, apparently Christianity and Trumpism are incompatible with intellect and Atheism which suits me just fine.

I scarcely see how anger and name calling and blame assignment helps anyone.
Political party propaganda aside, perhaps proper respectful dialogue would be more helpful.

What are these horrible evil things that "liberals" do that allegedly sets them apart from those "holy, sinless" conservatives?

Oh, BTW, please show proof that there are no hypocritical Repub/conservatives ( show where they don't hire hookers so they can cheat on their wives :) )

Ha ha. So the left is not authoritarian today? And they exhibit no fascist tendencies? I disagree strongly, even as an old liberal. I think this is one area where the left has changed, just in my own life of 76 years.

Nope...you are a heathen like everyone else, including most Christians to most Christians. Just as most Republicans are Liberals to TrumpHumpers unless they bow down and worship "The Trump" without question.

I'm definitively liberal, but since the 1960s the people who have hijacked the term for their own use have changed the meaning, which is why I now call myself "libertarian". And I'll tell you something else: I can no longer afford to "live and let live" lest the crazies who now call themselves "liberal" ruin life for everybody else with their totalitarian ideas. I tried ignoring them years ago thinking that no one with a brain would take them seriously only to find that there were more people without brains than I thought...or too many people not paying attention.

Now I am forced to resist their onslaught to prevent them from enacting law that will change MY life, "for the good of the whole world" as they claim is, ironically, is what they say I want to do.

Personally, I have a hard time understanding how people who identify as atheist these days consider themselves the smartest people in the room considering the idiotic notions they entertain.

I'm sure you do. Thing is Atheists do not in general claim to be "The Smartest People in the Room" as each is an individual with their own level of intellect. The One (1) thing they do have in common however would be the non-acceptance of the human created God figure as a reality, which does indicate a certain level of rational thought. That you do not understand this is the expected result because you DO accept it and defend it regularly...which is your prerogative. Attempting to define millions of people with a blanket label however is as ignorant as me attempting to do so for Christians, even knowing that there are hundreds of versions and thousands of congregations with millions of individuals who all have a different "God" in their minds.
