    Thanks, Wild Bill!
Yet, many criminals use guns and kill with guns in the Greater Toronto Area!!

    "Increasing number of gun crimes
While overall crime rates in Canada are much lower today than decades ago, for the third consecutive year the total number of firearm-related homicides in Canada increased, reaching 223 in 2016, 44 more than the previous year.

Shooting has now become the most common form of homicide, surpassing homicide by stabbing and beating.

Gang-related murders involving guns is no exception. In 2016 alone, police reported 141 gang-related homicides, 45 more than in 2015. The largest increases in the number of gang-related homicides committed with a firearm were reported in Ontario (+22) and British Columbia (+12), with the majority of these occurring in Toronto and Vancouver.

Since 2013, firearms murders in Canada’s largest cities have almost doubled from 134 to 223.

Gun violence is also increasing in rural areas. In Canada, three out of 10 violent gun crimes happen outside of a major city.
Overall, the Territories and Saskatchewan have the highest rates of firearm-related violent crime...."

What's wrong with having "puny little arms?" Your mother probably did and without her you wouldn't be here.

Where are semi-automatic rifles banned? Not in the USA. Heck, you can buy an M1A, a Saiga and many other semi autos with no problem at all. FULLY automatic weapons require a Class III firearms license, but semi-autos require no extra anything.

Guns are NOT designed to kill. I have a Ruger Mark I. Its a gun designed and sold for competition. Other guns are sold for hunting. Military guns are designed for killing, but we can't buy those... like an M-16, full auto AK-47 and such.

Oh... ok. I talked to a trucker from Canada recently. EVERYTHING seems banned in Canada. You have my sympathy for having to endure that prime Minister.

Yep, I understand completely. The only reason I started posting on the thread was certain claims/inferences made about how firearms would have been useful in this situation. If you've read my posts then you know I had grave doubts about that in this specific instance given how and where etc the tragedy played out (and of course the issue of the reactionary gap).

How's blacksmithing work out for you as living BTW? Its a cool trade (well not literally). I have a couple of friends over here who are getting right into it as a hobby. Its having a resurgence amongst since COVID.

Canada doesn't outlaw self-defense. The short version of their approach is you can defend yourself or others, and your or their property, but you can only use the force necessary to neutralize the threat.

And if people could shoot back to see might have been no deaths.

You to Canadian: "Hey, you're from that "medieval **** hole" Canada, right? We're short of water and you have lots. We think you should create a 500-mile long lake so you can provide us with water. After all, we're the Republic of the United States and you should kiss our rears." :omfg: :omfg:

its a shame that anti gunners use every mass shooting and the blood of the innocents to try to eliminate the rights of law abiding gun owners

Curious, does that mean you limited to a knife for self defense if the attacker is using a knife.

No. You can shoot the guy, but you can't keep shooting him when the threat has ended.

I'm an old artilleryman. Its best to blow the bad guys into little pieces at about 30 kilometers before he even sees you. Or better yet, use HIMARS and nail him 100 miles away.

Your statement was absolutely ridiculous and you got it back in your face.
If there was any "emotional outburst" or "flailing about" it was yours. I merely quoted you verbatim. I didn't even add any exclamation points. READ and learn: :below::below::below:
You screwed yourself and now your butt is in great pain. BTW: Between arming and disarming one of them is "panic-mongering and emotionally driven" .... but anyone with an ounce of sense understands that.

    Really? :eyepopping:
    Yes, you should.
You left out the part about not having "the right to defend themselves" did you forget or did it fall off of the page? :reading:
I can agree with that but you haven't produced any proof that Canada "outlaws self defense". Are you suffering from dyslexia? :confusion:

Nah. It's BS. The people are happier than Americans. The idea "everything seems banned" is flat nuts.

That doesn't mean they're supporting the government. Trudeau is unpopular. The Conservative Party gets s new leader in two days.

Uh... you cant buy AK47's? Wha... you can buy AR15's ?????
Why not? Isn't it the right of every American to own an AK47? Even, every school child to own an AK?
Yeah, guns are designed to kill, they are a weapon. A lump of 4x4 CAN be a weapon, but guns are weapons outright. And there's more weapons than Americans. That's why 120,000 of you guys get shot every year. When I hear of another school shooting, here in Australia, I think, 'Why doesn't this happen more often?'

Yes, I'm sure you've also read a variety of opinions related to "what if someone had a firearm?" and my "what if" is probably not different than most.
Just having a gun is not as important as proficiency with it and a desire to minimize the overall number of deaths by attempting to calmly defuse the situation.

Overall, I worked as a blacksmith for about 25 years if you include the amount of time it took for me to learn the the trade. I basically taught myself by studying books, practice and ruining a lot of perfectly good steel.
Eventually, I became proficient enough at designing and making a wide range of wrought iron furniture, artifacts, gates, sculpture, grape vines, African animals, a full scale Jazz band holding musical instruments, reproduction Elizabethan artifacts etc for museums, Civil War artifacts for Civil War reenacters, harpoon heads, door knockers and on and on.

The weak links in my business were not charging enough, bookkeeping, and not keeping track of things I made. I loved designing and making things but hated the essential business, marketing and collection part of things.

I also loved giving blacksmithing demonstrations to school children and just experimenting with new techniques and designs.

Unfortunately, I now have several medical issues that keep me from working now but my blacksmith shop is behind our home and I hope to get back to making things soon.

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you or your friends may have.

    Thanks,
