A mobile phone traced to President Donald Trump’s former lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen briefly sent signals ricocheting off cell towers in the Prague area in late summer 2016, at the height of the presidential campaign, leaving an electronic record to support claims that Cohen met secretly there with Russian officials, four people with knowledge of the matter say.

During the same period of late August or early September, electronic eavesdropping by an Eastern European intelligence agency picked up a conversation among Russians, one of whom remarked that Cohen was in Prague, two people familiar with the incident said.

Cohen has always denied going to "Prague" to facilitate paying off the Kremlin hackers and other stuff with Russians. My guess is it will come out that Cohen was in the "Prague area" and not within the city limits of Prague.... That's how this crew works to attempt to maintain deniability.

Cohen in Prague in late summer 2016 would be a legit bombshell, because nobody can come up with a reason for him to be there other than covering up more Trump crimes (although I'm SURE Rudy will come up with something entertaining and completely BS).

Also, if this is true, it's laughable that Cohen would have kept his cell phone on and battery in... Doesn't he read current spy novels??

    SNIP (Steele Dossier)
[T]he agenda comprised questions on how deniable cash payments were to be made to hackers who had worked in Europe under Kremlin direction against the Clinton campaign and various contingencies for covering up these operations and Moscow’s secret liaison with the Trump team more generally.
    ENDSNIP

Did it happen? This is one of the favorite things I'm watching for from the Mueller report. If you have Cohen in Prague and Cohen FULLY cooperating with Mueller, you are going to have the entire enchilada... Collusion in full technicolor.

It's interesting that it was apparently only a brief signal. Why would that happen? Some kind of accident on his part? Setting it up to record and somehow activating the radio in the process?

The trip to Moscow was cancelled at the last minute. This was likely part of the reason why.

All good theories.... I can't imagine even Michael Cohen would be so stupid as to attempt to record conversations with heavy duty Russians...

Assuming he wasn't being pinged all the time, that generally means the battery was out of the phone. Certainly not an accident to re-insert the battery...

But as the person in the article states, it's bad tradecraft to even bring a personal phone to even the area of a meeting like that. I would think all phones would have been left at the door of the meeting itself.

Maybe it was deliberate, then. A bit of leverage for the Russians to hold over Cohen and Trump.

    ^Cohen's ping?

A cell phone signal obtained by Eastern European intelligence suggests that former Trump attorney Michael Cohen was near Prague during the summer of 2016.

Let's make thousands and paste them into the data logs of telecoms round the world. We'll use Eastern European intellegence assets to be sneaky. No one will question this, it's all magic to these idiots anyway!

Cohen doesn't need a reason to be in Prague. It isn't against the law.

No, it's about evidence that can be tested, proven, sworn to and admitted into a U.S. Court. Something tells me that Czech Republic Telecommunications isn't going to be forthcoming on the issue.

You're jumping the gun. We're still in the denial stage, not the "even if he did, it wasn't illegal!!" stage.

Then why wasn't it part of the plea deal as a perjury charge?

That level of detail isn't in my daily Mueller newsletter...

But I assume Mueller wanted to keep his charge super simple and kept it to the easiest to prove lie... Moscow Project

It's a rhetorical question, that would be another charge of lying to investigators and Congress. If Mueller had knowledge of this alleged crime where is it in the plea memo, he can't withhold it from the judge. It has to be adjudicated. And he would be in big trouble with the judge and Cohen's attorney's will be filing a complaint if he now comes back and tried to charge with it I would imagine.

Of course this could also be part of the shenanigans to try and take down Trump like the connected American and British agents trying to set up meetings with Trump people.

Every phone has an IMEI number which can easily be hacked by the technically proficient.

That raises the possibility that a foreign agent who obtained the ID number of Cohen's phone could have cloned it and switched it on somewhere in order to suggest he was present.

Might very well be, but Trump was done after Charlottesville... now it's just letting the dust settle.

Can you not see the potential of the story if Cohen did go to Prague in 2016??

The prosecutors aren't under any obligation to prosecute him for all crimes.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...gue-time-meeting-described-Trump-dossier.html

    Excerpt:

McClatchy didn't explore in print the possibility that a Cohen adversary might have obtained the unique digital ID of his phone and put it on another, a simple task for the technically inclined.

Every phone carries an International Mobile Equipment Identity number, or IMEI, an electronic fingerprint that can be altered. Instructions for the hack are readily available online, covering both Apple and Android devices.

That raises the possibility that a foreign agent who obtained the ID number of Cohen's phone could have cloned it and switched it on somewhere in order to suggest he was present.
