I have the following questions for my fellow PF members:

1. Should the charges against the jewish child-rapist Roman Polanski be dropped?

2. Is it right of these Hollywood bigwigs to defend Polanski, and even question whether he committed any crime?

3. Polanski and the media have brought up his jewish origin and his (questionable) status as a "holocaust survivor" in an attempt to gain sympathy from the public. What do you think about that? Should we feel sorry for this child rapist because he was born a jew?

This may be a reach, but the timing of this is a bit suspicious with everything else that is going on over here.

 

Personally, I think Polanski should stay away from the USA.

His return should not be predicated on a pre-arranged deal.

His religious preference has nothing to do with it.

 

If a judge says he's served enough time already? Has he served any time?

 

42 days in Chino (back in 1978..) under the pretext of a Psych Evaluation.

 

Of course, all the charges has to be dropped. US is famous for fabricating cases (the last that come to mind is about
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Former French Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry who was blamed in sexual harassment which finally proved to be the fake). So not sure if the case was the same way fabricated in case of Polanski. He is a great director, let him do the films. There would be no benefit in any case to send him to the prison.

 

In February of 2009, Samantha Geimer filed to have charges against Polanski dropped. Previously she had stated that she didn't want to see Polanski jailed.

And your point is well taken.

Some have even suggested that the felony charges (that were dropped in his original plea bargain) be reinstated b/c he fled and skipped out on the plea bargain agreement.

 

I didn't mean to imply that you approve. I'm just astonished at the "justice" these "special people" think they are entitled to, compared to what the average person gets.

There has always been a conflict between "rich man's justice" and "poor man's justice".

But, after considering the facts, I support not giving Polanski a free ride.

 

It's nice to find common ground with those whose politics I usually disagree with. I also agree that his religion/ethnicity (not sure which one the OP has a problem with, probably both) has little to do with this. It's about money in America, no matter your race or Creed. I'm not much of an SJW, but IMO this should be highly prioritized as a change to push for. Too much talk about race, not enough about monetized justice. White people have to get on board for reform to occur, and lecturing them on their privelege while they're living in a trailer tends to fall on deaf ears. But I think the downtrodden of all races could get behind a legal reform in this, because we've all experienced it.
