When the CPC starts telling Christians, Buddhists, Confucianists, and Jews what they can name their babies, what kind of beards they can grow, and what kind of head coverings they can wear, your point will have merit. Until then, you are wrong: China has absolutely singled out Muslims, specifically the Uyghur ethnic minority.

However, you still miss the point of the thread. Read carefully the last two sentences.

oooooh, ok! That's right, I forgot - "suppression" is limited to telling people what they can name their babies and what kind of beards they can have. Nothing else could possibly be suppression!

Moving the goalposts again, I see. Call me when you are able to actually respond to the topic instead of attempting to re-write my argument to suit your position.

I didn't say it wasn't racist for China. It was a racist policy here and it's the same there, but like I said race relations in China are not the same as here and I shouldn't expect much from China.

Errrm, yes actually you did... http://politicalforum.com/index.php...-beards-burkhas.503105/page-2#post-1067382097

"Considering you can't be racist against a religious following, no."

It can't be a racist policy in one place and not be a racist policy in another. Are you actually reading what you are typing?

the Chinese are in general unapologetically racist, I don't think they would notice or care.

    Okay, fine, I'll bite.

China's law is bigoted against Muslims.

Very few conservatives in the US would ever criticize any discrimination against Muslim. They have been calling for those same bans for years.

The concept of bigotry all around is still the same. You can't be racist against a religion, but bigoted yes and that's the Trump ban since it targets Muslims. The Chinese ban is racist since it targets Uyghurs, an ethnic group but either way you look at it it's bigoted. You can be Uyghur and not a Muslim, and you can be Muslim but not an Uyghur.

Those who shout allah akbha (whatevah! ) before perpetrating an atrocity are usually identified as being radical Islamists aren't they? [IMG]

Racist. You must use the term racist.

The law is not aimed at Uyhgurs, but at Muslims. Most Uyhgurs just happen to be Muslim. When Mr. Trump proposed a Muslim ban from certain countries, he was called a racist by some commentators, and even some of our colleagues right here on the board. I'm just asking for consistency.

As I've said, you can't be racist against a religion. If it targets Muslims then it's bigoted. Simply put.

Absolutely but, do you want to wait until that happens before identifying someone as an Islamist ?

Because that's the premise of the thread. You can't move the goalposts.

So the progressives who called Mr. Trump's "Muslim ban" were wrong to call it racist.

Technically yes. Bigoted and wrong, but not racist. From a terminology standpoint.

Words matter. So there is no qualification "technically." They were either wrong or they were not.

This thread is not about China and the U.S.. You are trying - again - to move the goalposts. This thread is not about whether China and the U.S. are wrong - it is about whether the progressives who called Mr. Trump's "Muslim ban" were wrong. You first said they were, and then you waffled and tried to skate out on what you called a "technicality."

So, once and for all - this is a "yes or no" question: Are the progressives who called Mr. Trump's Muslim ban "racist" wrong? Yes or no. Simple.
