    .

    Thanks for the heads up.

I've heard previously that Japan might ally with Taiwan.

    China, the new bully boy.
It's interesting that China ponders whether America would go to war over Taiwan. But
the issue isn't just about the tiny island of Taiwan - a takeover by China gives them
access and political/diplomatic/stratetic clout to take over the rest of SE Asia.

Well, China's Communist Party has shown that they are just as mad (as in out of their minds) as any leader of any hotspot around the world. Perhaps it's time to scare them to the core?! Put military assets to counter nuclear missiles in range of Chinese waters? Or even the mainland? Perhaps even plant nukes in Japan? Or would that be too much of a response?

I recall that the USA has supposed to have been pivoting to the Asian theater for many years now. So, China should already be under pressure. What happened did we get side-tracked in the middle east and forgot about it?

Very much could be the case. I also think that they believe Biden won’t have the nuts to counter them.

Does anybody have an "OFF" switch they are willing to share? I kinda want off this roller coaster ride right about now.

Rodney King asked "Why can't we all just get along?"

    '

I had a dream/nightmare once back when Obama was president that we got word that he had made some kind of deal selling out the U.S. to the Chinese and that there were reports of a column of Chinese T-55 tanks coming down the main highway toward the town I lived in then. A bunch of my students and football players pulled up in front of my house and asked if I was going to join them. They all had long guns of some type. I shouted my agreement and encouragement, grabbed my 12 gauge shotgun and jumped in the back of the truck with them. I said I was a little short on ammo but one of them assured me that they had plenty.

Don't know what we could've done against even old T-55 tanks with shotguns, 22, and 30 caliber hunting rifles.

Probably not much. But I won’t let my kids and wife lay in a Chinese camp without giving them one hell of a fight. The best gun I have for a situation like that is a TrackingPoint ShadowTrax8. It’s a 338 lapua that locks on target from up to 1500 yards away.

    really it’s a scary thought.

Why? Guns can't do much against ICBMs and the like.

Good movie. I wasn't aware until recent years how much influence former Secretary of State General Alexander Haig had on the story for the movie.

Because we don't get along and never have. It's in our DNA.

In a war that this there would most definitely be ground troops at some point. No war has ever been done without them. ICBM’s are some scary stuff too I’m not diminishing your point at all. But if you think that ground warfare wouldn’t happen you’re mistaken

I don't know what China's capacity would be to move a bunch of ground troops into the US, but I don't think it would be enough to get past our military. And then if it did happen, well, we've got a lot of National Guard and a lot of police who might help out in addition to the regular military. I think China's ground forces are much more of a concern in their own region than here.

Have you ever read about The Marquis? I’m pretty sure that’s where the creator of Red Dawn got the idea for the movie. Literally small groups that fought in WWII that often took the name of their local school, helped downed allied air craft, and was great at gorilla warfare. Almost to a T like the movie. The one catch… they were said to be communist. Lol

If you look at their navy capabilities as of late they definitely are gearing up for an invasionary force

And there is nothing we can do about it if they invade Taiwan. We have to face facts. Its their backyard, their 'sphere of influence' and our interests, and the interests of democracy/capitalism or any threat to SE Asia will not stop their boats or troops from doing whatever they please 100 miles offshore. Once the tiger gets the deer in his mouth, you are not going to stop him from chewing and swallowing before you get your club.

Afghanistan is why. Vietnam is why. Even the most powerful modern militaries cower in the face of asymmetrical warfare.

Modern militaries are effective against other militaries, far less so against the guerillas.
