Why can't the church do the right thing and wipe their hands of anyone who commits such vile crimes? Why continue to help and support a man who has damaged your religion?

    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/religious-order-declares-it-will-continue-to-stand-by-sex-offender-robert-best/story-fn7x8me2-1226111925240

What about supporting the victims? His youngest victim was a 8 yr old boy, whom he brutally raped. 9 years old! And still his church friends will support him. Why? Is it really so bad to turn your back when someone commits one of the most vile acts a human being could commit?

This is unfortunate, and I don't think the church is winning itself any favors by continuing to support sex offenders, instead of supporting those who really matter - the victims and their families.

Seems like the Christian brothers and sisters are not the only ones that commit such heinous crimes.

Here is an interesting government article that you might enjoy. Pay particular attention to the first quoted text immediately beneath the title of the document.

Well you see this life doens't matter because if you believe in Jesus and ask for forgiveness you will go to heaven so raping a little boy isn't anything that can't be forgiven by the all forgiving god.

However, if you're some sort of (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) you should (*)(*)(*)(*)ing die!

Oh my goodness again. So in your opinion, it is OK for Atheists to perform acts of Child Abuse as long as that abuse is not akin to sexual abuse? Well I suppose that would be OK... then those Atheists who are smokers could always use an infants navel as an ash-tray for their cigarettes. Yeah... that would work... Or in the alternative, those same Atheists could also use an infant as a basketball... or hey... even using them to train attack dogs... Yeah... all of that would be OK..... according to you.

With the church still lending support to the pedophile, does this mean they condone what he did? Why else would you support someone who harmed children? And how can you rationalise supporting the victims, while at the same time supporting the person responsible for their physical and emotional injuries?

That's it! I'm not buying any more of their brandy. On a more serious note, I'm sure the church's attorneys have advised them to act like everything is just fine. And then there's all that forgiveness crap--bugger little boys all you want, stretch their rectums to the point you drive a truck up there... it's OK, Jesus will forgive you if you say some rosaries and maybe put a few coins in the holy fountain.

There is no doubt that the Catholic Church does not have a monopoly on child rape, but THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HOLD THEMSELVES OUT AS THE ARBITERS OF MORALITY AND ARE SO PRESUMPTUOUS AS TO TELL ME HOW I SHOULD LIVE MY LIFE SO THEY CAN GO (*)(*)(*)(*) THEMSELVES WITH BROKEN BEER BOTTLES if they're going to not only tolerate, not only facilitate, not only enable child rapists, but AID AND ABET THEM AND THEN OBSTRUCT JUSTICE AFTER THE FACT. Oh, and they should pay their god (*)(*)(*)(*) taxes too while they're at it. I'm sick of subsidizing their legal defense. (*)(*)(*)(*) them. I hope these sick (*)(*)(*)(*)s get visited upon them fifty fold in the big house of what they perpetrated against innocent children.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Despite your hysterical response here I will say that simply disciplining your child by smacking them is classed as child abuse in many countries including the US. I would think that it is quite important to differentiate between this and sexual abuse.

The catholic church went off the path hundreds of years ago.

No where in the bible does it say for people to confess their sins to a priest, pray to Mary etc... The catholic church is just full of " man made" rules at this point, their are true christians in the church no doubt but the church as a whole now serves man more than God

I think having priests be unmarried is a big problem, some men (sickos) go into the priesthood for the sole reason to molest little boys

You have demonstrated in another thread that you make it up as you go along too.

Definitely a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Oh yes! Leave it to a defending Atheist or non-Theist to attempt to down play some of the heinous acts of child abuse by categorizing them and or comparing those acts with 'simply disciplining them'. My examples of child abuse included acts that are acts against nature as well as acts against the societal norms of behavior; yet you attempt to make them appear by comparison to 'simply disciplining' those children.

Why are you deflecting off the topic. Do you agree what the Catholic Church is doing in this instance or not? What does your topic have to do with the intention of the original post.

It appears our friend is red herring and moving the goal posts.

The issue is not whether or not rape is bad, or who does it.

But why the church is still supporting this man.

I don't agree with 99.99% of what the 501c3 churches are putting out to the public.

The intent of the information (link) I posted was to show that Atheists are included in a list of groups of people who are as likely to be involved in the same behavior (child abuse of all forms) as are any other group of people.

Who is making a defense? Stating a fact is stating a fact. Atheists are included in the list of people who commit "child abuse" (in any form).

I am on topic, and the Atheists and other non-theists are now flocking to this thread in a wild attempt to defend other Atheists who have added to the reports of 'child abuse', thus showing that Atheists are equally guilty of defending those of their group when caught in atrocious and sometimes heinous acts against children.

No one cares, make a new thread.

This thread is about a church supporting a child molester. People are well aware that people in all demographics are capable if abusing other people. Its painfully obvious, needs no times wasted on pointing it out. I do not see secular organizations defending child molesters.

    Stay on topic Incorporeal.

There are a couple of issues that need to be pointed out here.

#1 - the order is helping provide evidence against the abuser in this case. They are not advocating that he NOT get the consequences of his actions.

And, like anyone else, when you rape children, you go to jail.

#2 - there is this Christian concept called forgiveness. Forgiveness of even the most vile and disgusting sins imagineable. The belief that the men of this order take in one that believes that God can forgive ANYTHING, and that people who are repentant about their sins and desire to change should be granted that opportunity.

Vrey few people understand the details of the relationship between he brother and their order.

Most people understand that forgiveness is a good thing. When you lie to someone, and are caught and forgiven rather than tossed ut on your tuckus - its a good thing.

However, when forgiveness is offered for something vile and disgusting .... well, it isn;t abot anything other than the brother being in dire need of it - and despite not ever being able to earn forgiveness or atone for his sins - to be offered the gift of forgiveness and acceptance by his community.

A community that will nevertheless ensure that he faces the consequences of his transgressions.

When you take an oath to a set of principles - you live the principles. Even when its bad.

Yes. This thread is about a church (body of Atheists) who are protecting other Atheists and non-Theists who commit acts of child abuse that conceivably include the act of 'child sexual abuse'. You declare that you "don't see secular organizations defending child molesters.", well, if you are an Atheist or non-theist (secular) and you are defending any act of 'child abuse' you are equally guilty as a member of a secular group of people who defend the acts of other members of that secular group of people who commit such acts of 'child abuse'. "Child sexual abuse" goes far beyond the scope of 'rape' and includes other issues that are not even being openly discussed in this thread, yet are a part of that same form of abuse.
