I am not obfuscating anything. I commented based on the "Socialism lite" definition and this is not what the people are protesting.

It is you who is obfuscating and has no clue what you are talking about.

I don't feel, I know: I know that I live in a nation that was once free, that was once a beacon of light, that once was a creation of the enlightened mind, but is now fast becoming a third-rate fascist tyranny under the banner of socialist slogans in the name of the greater good. While the trajectory for a free tomorrow of wonder and marvel is still moving us forward, the engine that powers it is becoming bogged down in altruistic goop. That power? The independent mind.

How soon before the momentum of the Age of Enlightenment that gave birth to a nation of independent minds is forever stopped by hucksters and power-lusters with their altruistic goop? When you see the common man rioting in the street, when you see college students afraid of ideas and words, when you see a con-man like Trump as America's leader, you can be assured, much sooner than anyone thinks.

No. They are rioting because it cost so damn much, and they aren't getting sufficient value in return. Sadly, they fail to realize that capitalism is their only savior, not the brute force of a mob demanding the heads of the rich.

I'm still free. If I ever start feeling like you, I'll probably move out. I might move out anyway when I am fully retired due to cost of living.

Obviously they want the free stuff to continue but just as obviously the system providing the free stuff isn't working as promised.

They riot because they allowed others to rile them up over a multitude of issues, but mainly it is Macron. From what I read the agitators used mainly social media. Next week this time no one will be talking about it anymore.

So what are the riots about in your opinion? Generally people don't riot because they are happy with government

For sure they do not like some of the things Gov't is doing - that goes without saying. They are protesting increasing fuel costs, the elite and Macron's disdain for the poor - the exact opposite of what you are claiming.

So what started out as a riot against a socialist carbon tax has now morphed into a riot against not enough socialism?

That's not all that is showing it isn't working.

Belgium’s ruling coalition collapses over U.N. pact on migration.....

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel scrambled to hold on to power Sunday, as his nation became the latest to face political upheaval caused by the planned adoption this week of a symbolic global pact on migration.

The controversy over the United Nations Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration revealed the degree to which the issue has become politically poisonous in the era of President Trump and rising far-right leaders in Europe. The nonbinding agreement, proposed by European leaders in the aftermath of the 2015 migration crisis in Europe, reaffirms existing commitments to human rights and seeks to broaden international cooperation to avoid future crises. But the United States, Israel, Australia and a lengthening tally of European countries say they will not sign on.

    ***

The debate has roiled Poland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovakia and Latvia, among others. Even Austria, which was the lead negotiator of the pact on behalf of the European Union, has rebelled, with the ruling coalition declaring in October that it wanted to “defend its national sovereignty” instead of signing the agreement. Its defection set off a stream of new decisions to split from the pact.

The United States — which decided last year to sit out the negotiations — denounced the agreement Friday, saying in a statement from the U.S. Mission to the United Nations that “decisions about how to secure its borders, and whom to admit for legal residency or to grant citizenship, are among the most important sovereign decisions a State can make.”

I am pretty sure they are trained to handle rioters the same way regardless of their religion, but this riot is more widespread that what they have seen in the muslim neighborhoods.

Now they are offering increases to min wage. These kinds of concessions only encourage new riots. First backed down on fuel tax, and now this. Weak.

Look - the Carbon tax has as much to do with socialism as Trumps increase in military spending in the last budget.
What the fk are you trying to say ?

Neah. Their point is just valid.
Half of the country who has a job earns 1930 euro's a month. It's just jaw dropping low.
And they simply can not handle that everything is getting more expensive.
    Something needs to give.

The carbon tax is pure left wing while increasing military spending is pure right wing.

Both are "socialism lite" = wealth redistribution. Why is it that you are still trying to beat this dead horse. The protesters in France are not protesting "Socialism" - which was your initial claim.

I've always said that this ill-conceived and misbegotten EU project would end in tears, and it gives me no pleasure in knowing I was right because this is just the beginning. Bit like the Arab Spring . . . it all seemed such a good idea at the time?

Actually if it had stayed as the original idea - a common trading area (EFTA) we wouldn't be having this trouble now; it was a brilliant idea and I even voted for it, but it's now perfectly clear it was just a subterfuge 'thin end of the wedge' towards a federalist European Superstate. Thank god we didn't fall for the common currency because it would now be impossible to escape from, and as we're witnessing, it's difficult enough as it is?

What has to “give” is robbing the rich to mesmerize the poor into giving useless nobodies political power so they can feel like “angels”.What needs to happen is the restoration of individual rights, and the implimentation of laissze-faire capitalism so man can be free to create heaven on earth.

Let freedom ring; the creative human spirit will do the rest.
