Yep. They are under no obligation to tell the truth. They can literally say anything that doesn't violate FCC content morality rules.
We did have a law at one time prohibiting propaganda... which are lies, but it's been removed. I don't know when? I personally feel that there should be more stringent laws against lying, especially during elections... but of course that will never be unless there's a drastic change in our societal morals. We would have to have a certain belief in a higher power, instead of feeling one is free to manipulate people and circumstances to their own self interests.
