Hi, my name is Ritter and I'm an coffoholic. [Hi, Ritter!] No, but seriously speaking. I am sort of addicted to coffee and consume at least two cups of it a day. I am yet to see any bad health effects of this lovely beverage and it is not like I care too much about what I eat anyways. The only reason I raise this question is because there always seems to be a new study on the effects of coffee contradicting the previous one. One day it is "God's gift to humanity" and the next it is "literally Hitler". So, what does rhe latest research on this say and what do you think; is coffee good for you, bad for you or is just like with every other product; "as long as not abused, it won't hurt you"? Not too long ago, some scientist concluded that especially men should drink loads of coffee as it would serve to minimise the risk of developing prostate cancer and I also recall reading that regular coffee-drinking prevents Alzheimers. At the same time, I also recall reading coffee being bad for your blood and even worse, not to say dangerous, for your liver causing terrible diseases.
Coffee is just a normal food stuff. It’ll have some positive impacts and some negative impacts, both short term and long term, all of which will vary massively between different individuals. In general terms, worrying too much about what you eat is going to do as much harm as the actual food itself. If you’re in reasonable health with a conventional lifestyle, go for a generally balanced diet without too much or too little of anything and you’ll probably do as well as you would if you obsessed over every detail. Incidentally, if you think two cups of coffee a day is even close enough to call yourself an addict, I suspect you’ll be just fine.
Bad. It dehydrates you, at least that's what a natural doctor once told me and I believe it. Having said that, I drink it like a fiend and am still alive. I feel almost exactly like that Joe said.
Granny says a cup o' coffee inna mornin' gets her goin' fer the day... Judge Orders Coffee Sellers in California to Put Cancer Warning on Products March 29, 2018 - A Los Angeles judge Thursday ordered coffee companies to abide by California state law and put cancer warning labels on their products. But how frightened should we be of a daily cup of joe? Not very, some scientists and available evidence seem to suggest.
Well, I drink two cups of coffee a day, and I'm an addict. If I don't have at least one cup of coffee by about 10 am, I'll have a splitting headache until I get coffee. That said, I don't think coffee is bad for you. It may or may not be good for you, and I don't think it dehydrates. It doesn't hydrate well, but I don't buy that it dehydrates.
This is typical of those who have caffeine addiction. However, caffeine is harmless to the body. Enjoy your java!
I do, I do. Just looked up the whole hydration thing and coffee. No diuretic effect of caffeine before about 360 mg of caffeine. Average cup of coffee has about 135 mg of caffeine. So it takes over two cups of coffee to see any possible dehydration by coffee drinking.
I get the headache thing too but it goes away if I just power through it. I guess that counts as withdrawal but it’s got to be the mildest withdrawal of any substance on earth. When I was far too overweight covfefe used to give me heart palpitations. Now that I’m thinner it doesn’t do that anymore. Coffee itself is not bad for you but the stuff people put in it can be.
That sums it up Ritter - everything in moderation, and you can't go wrong. These 'experts' will say something one day, and a week later they've changed their advice back to the status quo ante.
caffeine is a diuretic so it does dehydrate... do you put sugar in your coffee, that may be what's giving you your headaches, I had the same headache issue until I cut refined sugar out of my diet...
different studies will have differing results depending on what they're looking for...alcohol is definitely bad for your liver and colon but it seems it's okay for the heart... as you say moderation is the key, I'll have 4-8 cups a day and I like it strong/black ... my MD said I should cut back on the coffee but that I'm in excellent health
It doesn't cause a diuretic effect until about 300 mg, per a study of it. I get the headache from not having coffee. Has nothing to do with sugar. The headache will go away with black coffee as well as my usual coffee with cream and saccharine.
well I'm well past 300mg, but it's my favourite addiction and I ain't giving it up ...drink away and enjoy
I'm of the opinion that, in excess, alcohol is a carcinogen too. As far as it's possible these days, when bizarre stuff like adding water to fresh meat products is de rigueur, and injecting bleach into chicken breasts to whiten them , it's best to avoid all processed foods, and drinks also. I can't believe there are those who are willing to pay big bucks for bottled tap water that has had loads of sugar and a colouring agent added to it, then labeled 'sports drinks' or 'energy drinks'; or who are fooled that Diet Coke and Bud lite etcetera contain fewer sugar-imitating chemicals than the regular lines.
The New York coffee house - a patriotic institution: SOCIETY AT AUCTION: COFFEE-HOUSE CULTURE IN OCCUPIED NEW YORK https://allthingsliberty.com/2016/11/society-auction-coffee-house-culture-occupied-new-york/ In 1950s NYC coffeehouses were places where patriots could sit and chat, listen to poetry recitals, hear lectures on political reform and justice, view art exhibits, sing along with folk music performers, and maybe even share bottles of wine. Often, the only cost was one cup of coffee. Funny how today, just one cup of coffee cost more than all the re-fills you could get in a year back in the those days!
In the late 1950s the NYC Fire Department closed down several coffee houses because (it said) they posed fire hazards. In reality, those bureaucratic ✱✱✱✱✱✱✱ closed them because of alleged drug use. Peaceful patrons protested against this bureaucratic abuse: This is what the USA needs today to solve all the existing social problems: That's right - the return of the old fashion coffee shop for good affordable coffee, a donut, and a nice place to listen to poetry, hear jazz music, or to dance barefooted: Remember - coffee is life!
Great news. I asked my doctor about Coffee and he says the water in it is awesome and the coffee in it is not harmful. So you hydrate. i drink 4-6 cups daily and it is working out fine at my age of 79.
