What really bothers me here, is that I believe at a minimum, Daniel is speaking his honest beliefs. That is the terrifying part. This is the type ideology that is gaining momentum with the likes of AOC and Bernie Supporters. We are in the very midst of a culture war.

Im part of Generation X. A generation that was raised at a time when markets were dotcom vulnerable and volatile. Our generation dealt with two working adults, and mainly meandered around the neighborhood drinking out of hoses hoping a mom would throw some pb&j sandwiches at us. We didn't get second chances on spelling tests, and there was still an "all-star" team in little league comprised of a few of the best players from each team. We generally worked hard, had very little entitlement, and believed we could be anything if we worked hard enough.

Our generation wasn't even that bad! Think about the generation that endured the great depression, WWI, and WWII. Yet these schmucks born between 1981 - 1996 truly believe they have it the worst. Our educational system has fundamentally failed them.

WOW, you described my childhood to a tee, haha. And speaking of PB&J, no one asked who was allergic to nuts, because barely anyone was allergic to much of anything=) At least I don't remember anyone allergic to foods until I got to college, maybe.

Kids now have it WAAAAAAAAY too good. I want to be harder on my kids because they still don't quite understand what hard labor is. They aren't shoveling snow all morning before they're allowed to play. They're not mowing the lawn for 2-3 hrs. They're not spending hours picking up acorns or vacuuming the pool. They don't know what its like to use a card catalogue in a library and hunt though encyclopedias for information that's already potentially outdated. They don't really know what looking out a car window is for entertainment on a long drive. I go out of my way to make sure my kids lose, because they have to know what it feels like. Think about how many college students barely know what its like. That's why they need safe spaces.

Some things that are harder though...

Competition to get into college. WAY more stressful now.
Social Media...thank god I didn't have to grow up with that ****!
Helicopter Parents who think they can get kidnapped at any second from your front lawn.

Uuuu, that's about it. Sorry for the OT=)

Daniel seems to have gotten himself banned.

WHEN he chose to actually say something other than word mash, a discussion could be had.

Oh noes! They finally took him offline to do that long overdue service, I guess. Clearly hadn't had a software update in yonks.

We'll miss your cosily familiar one liners, Danbot. We heart yooooooo. Come back soon!

I'm a staunch anti-bannist, but, in this case, nothing of value was lost.

daniel wasn't much more than a tosser of word salads.

I'm an anti-bannist (and anti-ignorist, and anti-reportist .. though I did report someone last week!) myself. I like a rich tapestry, and Danbot's clunky old software was a colourful thread in that richness. Yeah it was hellishly stuck in that terminal loop, but that's what made it so fun and funny. We were like Bart Simpson and the hotwired cupcake. We knew what would happen when we triggered it, but we kept doing it anyway :D

Chemistry or chemical engineering? I can tell you that engineering majors rarely get a full night's sleep due to their various projects. It's also possible that your school wasn't so rigorous. Is your school accredited?

Were you engineering majors, though? No offense, but an engineering degree requires more work and time than any other degree.

Engineering, not pharmacy. Engineer majors work on projects all the time and it takes up all their free time. You don't see many engineer majors partying on weekends.

Sorry, no. Engineering is challenging, but it's not a patch on Medicine (engineering takes 3 or 4 years, medicine takes 6 or 7 .. and the entry requirements for engineering are considerably lower than for medicine). They can be done while working. It takes many years, and means no social life, or sleep, or fun, but it can be done.

Awe shucks. Got called out on your garbage and now you'll try to belittle someone else's achievement. What have you achieved?

Sorry, no. I have a relative who took First Class Honours in Engineering, at one of the country's top universities, while working full time. FTR, do you know how difficult First Class Honours is? It's Engineering x 3.

    LOL.

My degrees are in mathematics. Pure mathematics craps all over engineering as far as difficulty goes. Mathematicians actually get annoyed at engineering folks because engineering folks usually try to pass themselves off at being good at math.

Mathematicians are MOSTLY annoyed because engineers make 10x what they do. :roflol:

Not true. There's plenty of data on the subject.

College is highly overrated, as Gates and Jobs proved.

    Two examples proves nothing.

College is worthwhile if you make it worthwhile (do well, marketable degree, etc). It's a huge drain on you for the rest of your life if you screw it up (massive loans with useless degree, massive loans with no degree, etc).

Hmmm. Proves you don’t need a college education to be successful. And, really, it only takes one example to prove that, I gave two. I imagine there are others, the Beatles “pop” into my head.
