Comey vs. Trump, it is not going to be pretty

Trump asked Comey to drop the investigation of Flynn. We pretty much know that, and that is what Comey will tell the Senate committee. Some argue he will screw himself by doing that. How can that be?

I know the answer to that question. Conservative sources like Fox, Breitbart, and National Review would have you believe that if Comey indicts Trump, then why didn't he tell his superiors at DOJ. The answer is his superiors at the DOJ are in Trump's pocket. If Comey accused Trump of obstruction of justice, it would go no where and he would be fired. That's one reason Comey stayed quiet.

The other reason is loyalty to the President. This conversation happened in February. Comey had no idea he would be fired in early May. As director of the FBI, accusing the President of obstruction of justice would serve no real purpose. Besides, Trump didn't put real pressure on Comey.

Then in May, Trump fired Comey then bragged about it to two top Russian officials saying, "I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job. I faced great pressure because of Russia. That's taken off."



That changes the whole picture, and Trump may have more to worry about than just the Flynn issue.

 

I disagree. I think Comey skewering Trump will be very pretty - beautiful, in fact.
I await with popcorn at the ready.

I decided to use a little imagination with the title. I agree. Normally, I don't watched Congressional testimonies because 95% of the testimony is a waste of time, pure politics. I watch the highlights instead. But, like millions of others, I will be watching the Comey testimony.

No doubt, so will Trump.

 

You're wishin' and hopin'. There is a lot more to this testimony than TDS and you know it.

As a matter of fact TDS does not exist. That is a derogatory term used by Trump fans to describe the mounting evidence against Trump. They can't deny the the evidence, as seen here, so they call it TDS ... as seen here.

The clock is ticking down to Comey's testimony on Thursday morning. Where is the White House war room? Remember the scandal-containment unit that was supposed to quarantine the rest of the White House from Russia questions, so that President Trump could pursue a positive agenda, with the Clinton-style scandal machinery handling the investigations?

Well, it hasn't happened. White House insiders tell us Trump couldn't close the deal.

Not to change the subject, but yesterday Trump engaged in a Twitter storm on various subjects from picking a fight with the mayor of London to calling his travel ban a travel ban, a term his lawyers don't wish to use while defending him in front of the Supreme court. This prompted the White House to say Trump's tweets do represent official White House policy.

In other words, what the President says has nothing to do with official White House policy.

 

No, I am not saying that. Comey's memo does not conflict with his earlier testimony. Here is what he said in its full context.

HIRONO: So if the attorney general or senior officials at the Department of Justice opposes a specific investigation, can they halt that FBI investigation?

COMEY: In theory, yes.

HIRONO: Has it happened?

COMEY: Not in my experience. Because it would be a big deal to tell the FBI to stop doing something that — without an appropriate purpose. I mean where oftentimes they give us opinions that "we don't see a case there and so you ought to stop investing resources in it." But I'm talking about a situation where we were told to stop something for a political reason, that would be a very big deal. It's not happened in my experience.

There is a lot of chatter over a memo no reporter or politician has yet to see.

Frankly, I expect nothing new from Comey.

 

Trump is a senior official of the justice dept. COMMANDER IN CHIEF.

 

It's the chatter about the phoney Lynch memo that's to be Comeys undoing. By knowingly presenting this fake Lynch memo as evidence that warranted reopening Clintons email investigation, Comey destroyed his own credibility. Comey's also been caught illegally sharing intelligence. Comey's going to prison.

 

Evidence of what crime ?? The only crime committed thus far is the disclosure of Flynn's name and the leaking of classified information by the NSA contracted person.

TDS is the manufacture of conspiracy theories out of a mountain of unrelated and irrelevant facts. There is a lot of that going on.

 

Simply put, if Comey utters the words "obstruction" in any fashion, he is self indicting. Obviously, he won't. But please, all of this liberal hyperventilating has to stop. I mean, global warming and all.......

 

The only thing that Comey's testimony will change is the whinning about how Comey suckered the establishment yet again. He has nothing he's going to give you nothing except perhaps the names of a few more NSA leakers.

Comey's lucky it was Trump who fired him if it were Hillary it would have been a bullet in the head instead.

No one is saying that the Attorney General asked him to stop the investigation. TRUMP did. We know that. He admitted it

 

Did Comey stop the investigation ??

 

Robert, do you doubt the existence of the memo? Have you ever seen the original Declaration of Independence? Do you believe that it exists.

People believe many things they have never seen.

Your last statement sounded like a prayer. Much of the information Comey gives will not be new, but it will be confirmed ... like the existence of the memo.

 

Yes, under Trump it is with a man like Jeff Sessions as the head of the DOJ. Sessions is merely a Trump lapdog who will do as he is told.

The DOJ is supposed to be independent from the President and often, as is the case right now, investigates the actions of the President.
