A few days ago, Joe Rogan said he would host a 4-hour debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. No audience, just the three of them and live-streamed so there could be no editing. Trump agreed to this idea.

Forget Joe Rogan as moderator. This poll is about the concept in general of having lengthier more conversational debates over issues versus the currently "sanctioned" network television debate format where answers are limited to 1.5 minutes.

    Here's the concept:

Do you favor the concept or like the current debate process?

Hmmm ... do I want to spend 4 hours watching what is basically an infomercial or would it be better to spend 4 hours shaving my head with a cheese grater? Decisions... decisions...

I like the idea of it happening that way because...(not in any particular order)

    1. There are so many questions about each candidate's cognitive abilities and stamina.
    2. There are not people crowded together (regardless of one's position on social distancing and mask usage, the threat is eliminated).
    3. The POTUS has to be able to think on his feet and a longer debate will show the country where the rubber meets the road.
    4. A 4 hour debate will be easier (even if watched in segments) than it being stretched out over several shorter ones.
    5. There is no risk of anyone cheating.

In short, I just want it to be over with as soon as possible. ;-)

Yes, but for people with the attention span of a gnat or people who aren't really interested in listening to lengthy discussions on actual policy differences, the regular MSM would nit pick the four hours apart and provide the typical, biased soundbites.

CNN/MSNBC would pick out all the "good Biden" bits and all the "bad Trump" bits and that's all their viewers would parrot.

Fox would pick out all the "good Trump" bits and all the "bad Biden" bits and that's all their viewers would parrot.

So you wouldn't necessarily lose 4 hours your own time if you chose not to watch, but the exchange could still be valuable. People could continue to get what they want to hear from "news", if that's their choice.

I listen to quite a few podcasts from conservative hosts who have liberal guests and from liberal hosts who have conservative guests. I get a lot out of them when people are just sitting having respectful, intelligent conversations about serious issues with none of the motive to "beat each other up".

The current debate format encourages the "beat him up because I only have a minute" mentality. That's a let-down to the general voting public, IMO.

Rogan's podcast is 3 hours long and he's one of the top-rated podcasters, and I do often end up watching his shows in segments when he has a really interesting topic and guest. I think people who might not want to sit 4 hours "live", would watch the replay over the following days.

I'd like to see a 3-4 hour debate/discussion in mid- to late-September and a second one the third week of October. (Maybe a 1st debate immediately after we know who the 2 nominees are going to be, and then those two later in the cycle.)

We're "hiring" a president who is going to have global power for four years. I don't think a total of 6-8 hours (maybe 9-12 hours with 3 debates) of their time talking at length about real issues is too much to ask.

Lets see, 4 hours, perhaps 240 minutes, minus 40 minutes of small breaks, Biden changing his Depends, Trump brokering another peace deal, things like that, 3 minutes response for each question and 30 second rebuttle, so I am guessing about 50 to 60 questions. So here are the Vegas betting odds below

Biden will complete more than 5 sentences out of 55 questions. Odds 145 to 1 against.
Biden will wet himself, sorry no one is taking the NO side of that equation so bets are off.
Trump will look confused at Biden numerous times then just will burst out laughing at him within the first 20 minutes, 7/5
    Biden shows up: even money

~ Really folks ... it's very likely that Joe could not hold up for more than 90 minutes. Perhaps we will soon find out . :dual:

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS IDEA........ and knowing that President Trump is fearless...... I am sure he would probably agree for Ms. Kamala Harris to take Mr. Biden's place at the debate............

I'm sure he would....or he'd take on both Kamala and Joe at the same time by himself. lol

This is obviously not going to happen this election. I intended this poll to be about the general idea and concept more for 2024. I think it would be a very good change in our archaic televised debate system! Television and cable are becoming obsolete. (So are geriatric candidates, one might think/hope. lol )

The idea is getting quite a bit of buzz with online podcasters. One person suggested three podcast moderators. Someone like Ben Shapiro (conservative), Joe Rogan (fairly even-handed and neutral) and someone from the Young Turks (Socialist) to ask questions from different angles.

I can see something like this developing in the next four years....if the major candidates would agree to participate is another thing.

~ Not sure about this suggestion. I believe vice president Pence is relegated to debate Ms Harris. However it would be much more fair to replace Ol´ Joe with another.

Here is a brilliant option.... President Trump takes on both ol' Joe as well as Harris!!!!!

Now if a large donor came forward to make a massive donation to one of those charities that President Trump has been donating his salary to.................. for ol' Joe and Harris and President Trump's footage in the debate......... then ol' Joe and Harris will really show their true colours if they refuse to get into this debate........ even though it would be a great thing for several charities..... (as well of course for the amusement of all Americans and the world that is watching this election so closely)!

And..... the proceeds after legitimate expenses for the producers could go to:

Fact check: President Donald Trump donates his salary, but he still makes money

Imagine what undecided voters will think of ol' Joe and Harris if they turned down an offer that win - win - win - win - win for everybody?

~ Democrats would donate to BLM. Republicans would likely donate to Veterans.

➡ NOTE : Estimates show Donald Trump's net worth is 1/2 billion less since becoming president .

He's the only president in recent decades not to get richer through establishment political connections.

Above all -- there should be no 'handling', censorship, or editing WHATSOEVER!

Give both candidates a drug test immediately before the debate and let the results be shown ON SCREEN before and during the debate. And let the debate be completely LIVE -- no holds barred!

The last thing in the world we want is another one of those rigged, contrived, manipulated so-called 'debates' like the last one Mitt Romney had with "Messiah" Obama -- moderated by that biased, Left-wing talking-head, Candy Crowley! I'll NEVER forget that....

Four hours to discuss and explain their policies? It would be good for those people who are truly trying to understand the views of each candidate - but neither would be able to fill 4 hours with that. It would devolve, of course.
