My intention was not to offend but to make a point...my apologies if your sensitivities were damaged. See 'ya.
In other words, a business should be free to discriminate as they wish. Why do we even have laws then?
the difference today is, whether conservative or liberal, there now seems to be fringes within each that are committed to extremism... then we have the "guilty by association" bs where it's near impossible to convince anyone "not that conservative/liberal, i'm this conservative/liberal... too many folks are blending every g-damm thing these days...
Discrimination my backside. You have a bakery, it doesn't wish to bake a cake for a gay based on their beliefs. The bakery is taken to court. You have a restaurant that throws a Republican out based on their beliefs. The restaurant is not taken to court. Please do carry on. Are both establishments not equal? You do want equality don't you?
The bakery is discriminating against an individual based on sexual orientation and the diner on political belief. One is legal and the other is not so change the laws if you can. By the way...McConnell was not kicked out he was harassed by other patrons.
Thank you for the nit picking. The restaurant is discriminating on their political beliefs. Irrelevant if it's colour, gender, political, nationality etc.. either have equality or don't. In practice, it doesn't work. If you had equality, a male American football team would play against a female American football team, or the teams would be mixed gender. Instead, you could have fairness, you could have a football league to cater for females. Otherwise, I imagine there would be a few broken female bones. Do correct me if you think I'm wrong.
Discrimination is the directed attention (good or bad) for whatever reason on any group or individual while not doing the same for another. In the legal sense is is negative actions based on the list presented in legal documentation. There are no laws protecting political standing or affiliation but there ARE laws protecting sexual orientation.
So, you go into a Muslim bakery and ask for a cake with the picture of Mohammed on it.... Please explain how this discriminating court case pans out.
The baker refuses to make the cake and if so inclined the customer takes him to court. This scenario is extremely unlikely however because the customer already knows the patron will not comply whereas the other situation involves the request for a cake they make already but refuse based on personal discrimination of sexual orientation. Your analogy is rather weak here.
It is not a stupid analogy because it applies to human beings too - Why don't you date that girl whom you don't like at all? Why don¨'t you let the creepy neighbour babysit your daughter? Why won't you choose to have a beer with the guy you can't stand?
our society has decided that discrimination against people due to race, gender, religion, nationality, ethnicity is WRONG and should not be allowed except in very small cases. don't like it? you're welcome to leave
Discrimination is a natural part of human life and an essential part of what is called "freedom of choice" and "freedom of association". You don't like it? Move to Saudi Arabia!
well we have the Civil Rights Act which BANS discrimination in the public sector and much of the private sector. It will NEVER be overturned
I am sorry but, that is a nonsense law since it can never be applied properly in reality. It is a notion that is rooted in nothing but feminine cutesieness and headless fluff.
All American citizens should be equal before the government, and before the 'law of the land'. THAT is one thing. And, all employers, companies, and corporations should be able to hire or fire any person they wish (with whatever severance was agreed to, or is required by law, if any). THAT is another thing entirely. Do you understand the difference...?
I would prefer they just have to advertise as such so I wouldn’t wast my time even considering a job or lease with that individual. Is that an option?
Somebody stepped off a time machine. Welcome to 2019, and no we haven't stopped warming up the planet after 30 years of knowing its wrong, shocking right?
