Controversial ‘American Idol’ top 14 results spark confusion, outrage

As Idol's ratings are at an all-time low, it's obvious that many of us don't watch it. There was a kid on there from the town I've worked in since 1995 - so I feel I'm a part of it - so I tuned into this season.

In brief, the top 14 contestants sang last night, the top 10 were chosen. 6 by America's highest votes, and the remaining 4 by the judges. 5 of the top 6 chosen were white, 1 was black.

Adam Sanders (drag queen called Ada Vox) was immediately moved over to the top 10 by Katy Perry. That was a given that I saw coming. America didn't vote for him.


Next was a lesbian named Jurnee that has continually touted her gayness throughout the season and had a poor final performance. America didn't vote for her.


then Michelle Sussett, a "dreamer" who wrote and sang her own song called "I'm a Dreamer." America didn't vote for her.


Then a black guy named Dennis Lorenzo, he did a fantastic job and earned a top 10 spot. America didn't vote for him.

I'll let you read the story and be the judge. In my opinion, Mara Justine, Garrett Jacobs, and Marcio Donaldson deserved the top 3 spots over the first three pictured. The problem is that the judges didn't want anymore white people in the contest even though they have a much better stage presence and resonate more with an American Idol than a drag queen, a lesbian who touts her gayness, or a dreamer. Marcio got tossed out for the three of them as well.

The Yahoo story on this is so full of holes and anti-Conservatism and racism and homophobia, I don't even know where to begin. You be the judge.

Jurnee is the best singer. Ratings are low partially because no one remembers what days it comes on and it's on a different network. ABC should have marketed that it was bringing the show back more. Meh - I wasn't motivated to vote Sunday. I liked the kid from Compton. He had a moving storyline but his performance on Sunday wasn't that impressive. I'd like to see him go to college (if he hasn't) and get a regular career.

 

Jurnee didn't do well after the news that America didn't vote her into the top 6. I thought Dennis and Mara both did better than Jurnee, Caleb, and Michael J., even throughout the season.

 

That's ok, let them think they're special until they try and sell an album.

 

The lib who wrote the Yahoo article said Jurnee rapped in her last performance. Clearly the guy wrote simply out of emotion and Twitter rage tweets.

Mara Justine's performance. I think this girl did better. Remember, you have to have the total package, not just stand there.

 

Those are the ones that weren't chosen by America's votes, they had to be saved by the judges. Lol. They won't make it past the next round of votes though.

 

This is the same reason The Walking Dead is slipping.

Its now a SJW teen drama.

 

Yep, I haven't watched the Walking Dead in a year and a half.

 

I have more important things to do than watch mindless reality TV.

 

Mara is a good singer and I think she's only 16, which is impressive. I know the adrenaline is pumping but one of her recent performances was uncomfortable to watch. There should have been more poise and fewer tears. I think this is why she wasn't in the top 6. The best all time American Idols are Fantasia and Carrie Underwood.

 

I know, I only watched to see how far Garrett Jacobs got, which yesterday was his last. This is the first time I've ever watched it.

 

Yeah I'm sure she'll be back. She was emotional, but could still rock the little auditorium they were in. Cade Foehner or Gabby Barrett will take it all the way home, IMO.

 

What Walking Dead are you watching? It’s slipping because the episodes are long and dry and Carl dying was a bad move.

Im caught up on TWD, and most of the way (few episodes left) on Fear the walking dead.

The neegan drama is just ridiculous.

 

The only true reality TV is sports.

Why the eff anyone would watch this type of garbage over the NHL & NBA Playoffs is beyone me.

 

In one of the early seasons a guy named Gedeon McKinney, who had a voice the equal or better than Sam Cooke, didn't make it to the final ten. I never watched much after that.

 

Fantasia is the best all time performer/singer combination.

 

Perhaps the whole series ought to have the singers stay behind the curtain instead of in front of it, until after a final winner is picked. No one knows their race, sexual orientation, or background until after. The sole factor is their singing ability.

In all fairness they are following the comics and the whole arc with Negan did go on a while. But for the show the episodes just felt really slow with a lot of boring points among the occasional outburst of action. And killing off Carl was the final straw for a lot of folks.

Of all 16 episodes in a season, the season opener, mid season finale and season finale episodes are usually the most exciting.

 

That was my last episode, and I watched it since the pilot.

At least FTWD looks like it might be better with Lennie James crossing over. That dude's awesome in every role I've seen him in.

 

I've noticed that seasonal pattern. Its unlike the viewership, which peaked around season 3-5 and is now steadily trending down.

 

I hear he's walking to the mexican border. Thats not terribly far from my home.

 

When I hear about the Kardashians or Honey Boo Boo, I run as far and fast as possible.

 

Ada Vox is hands down the best singer of them all.
Near the best in Idol history, IMO. So far.
