Came across this story and was really impressed with this next step in mobile monitoring technologies to monitor emissions at local levels in both urban and rural, residential and industrial neighborhoods. In this case utilizing a google maps car in the area surrounding a single ammonia fertilizer plant.

Are we going to monitor the factories in the other countries where the US buys from too?

Wouldn't make sense to pester factories in the US with this pollution stuff until the factories just close up and move to China.

it is a compelling technology so I imagine it will be commercialized and sold to governments, ngo's, industry around the world.

Make perfect sense in a rational world. China is also concerned about climate change and pollution of their environment. Its kind of a human thing since its directly related to quality of life and all.

Well, not if the goal was to help the planet.

If the goal is to run the US into the ground so collectivism can take over, it would make a LOT of sense.

Half of that is just lip service to Western countries. China cares more about maintaining exports and having a trade surplus than they do about the environment.
Right now China doesn't come anywhere close to the level of environmentalism in Europe or the US.

half of all climate change concern is lip service. And let's not forget the denialist regime currently ensconced in the white house.

Ironically Trump's current policies will be likely to reduce pollution.

Factories in the US are still less polluting than they are in China.

Don't you want factories to be moved somewhere where you can monitor them?
