Could SCOTUS pick have sealed Trump’s fate?

Short of some massive change it is clear at this point that Donald Trump has lost to Joe Biden. Even with that being the case Republicans have performed much better than expected in down ballot races. So it would seem that conservative policies still enjoy a fair amount of popularity with American voters. Trump’s loss was almost certainly based on his character not on the policies of his party.

The most lasting and impactful change he will have had on this country is his shaping of the Supreme Court. Could Trump have seen victory in this election if he did not rush to fill the Supreme Court vacancy? I think so.

If he still had that carrot to dangle in front of swing voters I believe he would have secured the necessary votes to win the election. He gave up a major incentive to vote for him.

Is it possible that Mitch and senate republicans knew that he was shooting himself in the foot here. Did they throw him under the bus, or were they just blinded by a greedy play for power?

    Thoughts?

A very interesting and thought provoking proposition. And I agree - that the carrot of a SCOTUS pick could well have been greater incentive to vote red. Hypocritically ramming through ACB wasn't a good look for Repub Senators, but I think that those who held that view likely painted Trump with the same brush. So to remove that carrot only makes us wonder about Trump's advisors. Did they not see that move? Did 'the best people' miss a game winner?

While I think that is more likely, I have to wonder if Trump wasn’t the victim of a hit job from his own party. I could see Mitch taking the opportunity to fill the seat and do away with a problematic President at the same time.

Just can’t believe that there wasn’t anyone in his circle not advising against this mistake.

His lying about, playing down, and mishandling of the pandemic gets my vote for the thing that has angered many who voted for him last time. Barrett is more the fault of McConnell than Trump.

I’m not your typical voter. Not a Republican either. But if Amy hadn’t been confirmed I may have voted for Trump. Wouldn’t matter because my EC vote would go for Trump anyway. :)

The Supreme Court seat for me was a 2A issue. I’m pretty sure Biden can’t accomplish what he says he wants to with a SC that respects the 2A.
