Court: No right to carry concealed weapons in public

"SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Dealing a blow to gun supporters, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday that Americans do not have a constitutional right to carry concealed weapons in public. In a dispute that could ultimately wind up before the Supreme Court, a divided 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said local law enforcement officials can place significant restrictions on who is allowed to carry concealed guns.

By a vote of 7-4, the court upheld a California law that says applicants must cite a “good cause” to obtain a concealed-carry permit. Typically, people who are being stalked or threatened, celebrities who fear for their safety, and those who routinely carry large amounts of cash or other valuables are granted permits.

“We hold that the Second Amendment does not preserve or protect a right of a member of the general public to carry concealed firearms in public,” Circuit Judge William A. Fletcher wrote for the majority". - Source​

One way or another, it looks like the gun issue is going to SCOTUS. Considering ideological balance of the high court, this could go in any direction.

 

Celebrities aren't entitled to more safety than anyone else. The common man fearing for his safety has the exact same right to arm himself. This one should get slapped down by the SC. Anyone fearing for their safety should be enough "good cause".

 

Concealed carry permits are almost impossible to get in the state of California, depending upon what county one resides. The open carry of firearms has been outlawed because the public did not know it was legal, and kept making police reports.

Taken together, it is almost impossible for anyone to legally carry a firearm in public.

 

The only good thing about this decision, it was the 9th U.S. District Court of Appeals who made the ruling.

The 9th has been overruled by the SCOTUS more than the constitutional scholar Barack Obama has.

Why is it that liberal judges appointed by liberal Presidents get it wrong so often ?

 

Cowards are the last people who should be allowed to carry guns.

 

A woman being threatened by her ex-husband is a coward? A store manager who leaves nightly with lots of cash is a coward? A guy who does service work in downtown businesses at night is a coward? You set the coward bar pretty high. I would think these people have a right to protect themselves, but not in California?

 

Those situations exist in every country in the developed world, but only in America are some men so afraid they think they need to carry a gun around with them. Those are the people who shouldn't have guns.

 

Why do cops carry guns off duty? Are they cowards or do they have extra rights? Are famous people cowards for hiring armed security or do they have extra rights?

I am in the 3rd category. I'm SOL? I work in some pretty crappy areas at night. So anybody claiming they are threatened by their ex or any store manager can get a permit in CA? I doubt it's that easy.
