The argument in US is that schools are to teach math, science & history and nothing else. Good manners etc are none of their business and should be left to the parents. However, we all know some parents fail to teach their kids any manners, and the kids grow up accordingly. See the video below from a Japanese school. I think there is value in such lessons. Courtesy lesson taught to elementary school children in Japan
If sticking to core curriculum is what it takes for idiot teachers to not pass their idiocy to the students then it stands to reason that “extra” things like teaching common decency would be asking too much. That said, a lack of courtesy and respect undermines the ability to teach anything which means schools need to be able to exercise forms of discipline including detention, suspension and banning in response to disruptive behavior. Duh
See how the men are making way for the woman and the elderly? In our ****ed up society, we would teach to give the chair away to whomever identified as a woman or elderly. lol. Even those kids know what a male and female is...
In our ****ed up society, parents like you scream obscenities and threats at educators over stupid non-issues and false notions such as the above.
You don't think that there will be some 'religious' folk out there that will be furious that children are being asked to perform an act that displays the result of sex? Think of the kids! Desantis would probably ban that lesson
It would never get that far in Florida, but he would ban if it did, because he argues school is for math, science & history, and nothing else. So, a lesson in courtesy would be a big no-no.
The OP suggested the question we should be asking is, 'What should our schools teach?' One approach is to ask another question. 'What do we want a child at graduation from high school to be?' If the answer's 'An adult, ready to take his/her place in our society,' we then know what should be taught. Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . educated.
Teaching good behavior is not a problem for society. The problem in the U.S. is teaching political ideology to children. I don't even think it should be taught by parents.
Well, when being a rude bigot becomes central to being a conservative, a political conflict arises when somebody tries to teach kids how to be respectful adults. Something being political doesn't mean both sides deserve deference.
Oh not specifically you, just conservatives being all up in arms about using pronouns because of "science" and such. In the real world, we call people by their preferred names and pronouns in the workplace to be polite and get along. Children should learn to do the same.
And wokeness should disappear. It is harmful to society. The male and female pronouns have been around as long as the English language. Suddenly they are inadequate. Count me in as an anti-woke conservative but, normally not a rude one.
I mean, I feel the same way about religion, but being anti-religion is not going to ameliorate its effects - possibly the opposite, and at work I still need to show people respect even if I think they're delusional for believing in magical sky fairies. For trans, let the doctors who treat them decide the best approach, and as for the rest of us let them be who they want until they encroach on another's rights. Using a public restroom and doing one's own business without ogling others or otherwise harassing them is not encroaching on another's rights. The sports issue is going to be addressed by sports organizations to ensure fairness.
I agree until those groups try to recruit minors and some are doing just that. Personal preferences are not an issue. Involving children in them certainly is without parental involvement.
