Perhaps you should pause and reflect on pushing laws that make sure that only cops and criminals carry guns.

Sorry, but that is their job- to protect and defend.
How would you feel about soldiers who refused to fight because they might get shot?
Or firemen who refused to enter a burning building because they might die? Or nurses and doctors who refused to treat people with covid because they might catch it?
Cowardice is cowardice. Lack of character is lack of character.
If you are afraid of doing your job, you should not be doing the job.

I think it's because we're become accustomed to things like the internet giving instant gratification and problem solving. We now live in a country full of internet black belts who think that watching a YT vid will give them the technical knowledge and physical training to do and be the things they see in movies.

Criminals don't fear courts, or cops. They have a mindset that you or I barely understand even with years of dealing with them, yet these people here think criminals think exactly the way they do. We're outnumbered by stupidity and ego that goes hand-in-hand with internet black belts.

Firemen and first responders do not put themselves at risk. They are ordered to wait until the situation is assessed. No point a fireman running into a building only for themselves to get trapped meaning other resources have to be sent to rescue them. I have yet to see any evidence that anyone inside was shot while the officers were milling around outside waiting for reinforcements. I read that the shooter starting shooting in that classroom as soon as he entered. I highly doubt that the shooting lasted any longer than a couple of minutes

true, but I would apply that to the wanna be cowboys who say that they will instantly rush in to be the "good guy with a gun". They are strangely absent when any shooting does start

They're busy being tasered and beaten by cops. The police prevented people from going in and it took an off duty border cop to kill the shooter. The cops stood idle to the shooter and hostile towards civilians.

I completely reject that characterization. At least given what we know so far. Looks to me like police are just not ABLE to stop in less time a shooter with an assault weapon (or two) and over 1000 rounds of ammunition in less time than they did.

They can't, and no matter how much training or equipment they get, they will NEVER be able to.

And this is the reason why this WILL happen again unless we, at a minimum, make it as difficult as humanly possible for somebody like this to obtain an "assault weapon" and that much ammunition.

    Italian international schools.

    Russia

Other places certainly turn schools into “bunkers”, some much more so than the US.

some cops are braver than others

you never really know when hiring a new cop how they will react until a situation like this arises

these cops did a terrible job... we can all see that

no, I could not do any better... but I did not take the job, I could not be a doctor either as I get light-headed at the site of blood

and if the police were lying to us at first and now refuse to answer about it now that caught, that is sad

These are all temporary measures following terrorist attacks

    Without exception.

Do yourself a favor and go to France or Italy to see if there are armed guards/teachers, armored doors or metal detectors in elementary school.

When this is done, try to order an AR-15 on the internet.

You'll see that it's a lot more difficult than in the US, the paradise of mass shooters.

And yet you made a thread where it was your contention that "armed professionals couldn't stop him".... So what good is it if anyone else has guns?

..... Guns only work if you're willing to use them

You can't stop a crazy shooter.

He will kill as many people as he meets until he is killed in turn.

How many more deaths does it take for the Conservatives to understand that?

Billions of dollars have been spent over the past 40 years to protect schools, workplaces, public places.... it doesn't work.

You've come to blame the police for not being brave enough.

The US has been the Western champion of mass shootings for decades.

Sure, after cops decide to sit there for 40 minutes before engaging the shooter while he goes on shooting.

It turns out that you can stop him.... But you have to actually go in there and do it. And yes I am squarely blaming the cops for sitting on their ass for 40 minutes while the kid kept shooting.

How long do you think cops should sit outside while a kid goes on killing other kids?

Odd, I did that exact portion of the job and I can’t say if they did a good or bad job based on outcome.

There will always be a different reason why the protections did not work.

The police did the wrong thing, the door was unloaded, the guard forgot his gun at home, the teachers should have been armed, the relatives should have seen that the crazy guy was crazy....

    Pathetic.

All smokescreens to avoid dealing with the real problem: the proliferation of guns.

So you think it was okay for law enforcement to sit outside the school and basically observe the shooting?

When kids are being shot you don't sit outside and have a powwow to form a plan of action you do what has to be done..... Time is literally of the essence

They're trained to take cover and then guess what they're training tells them to do next? Return fire.

He's well aware of that. He thinks guns should be taken away from everyone because there is a tiny fraction of people who will misuse them

Yeah, looks like the wrong call. It's true that there were 100 rounds in the first few minutes, another 16 rounds within the first 15 minutes, and then only about 3 shots after that apparently directed against somebody dialing 911. So not many were actually shot after the first 5 minutes, and probably only 1 after 15 minutes... but had they taken control sooner, more kids might have been saved by getting medical attention. And that's where they might get sued successfully.

Though it's true I expect cops would have died had they done it... even with swat one of them got hit it sounds like.

    Do you realize the irony?

You blame police officers trained to deal with active shooter situations for not acting promptly and one of your solutions to stop a crazy shooter is to arm civilians.

40% of the town's budget goes to the police. How much more money do they need to break down a door?

The police had plenty of gear, but they used it to just put up yellow police tape and rough up the parents outside the school.
