Religious types would tell you it's far more unethical to let children burn in hellfire for an eternity, so best get their souls saved now and avoid the wait. Catholic churches preach a bastardized version of scripture that includes works, sacraments, confession, etc., and place themselves between God and man, when Jesus said he was the only channel you need. In the fundamentalist churches (like the ones I attended), no one in the church was in any danger of hellfire because we'd all been saved.

What's wrong with a gun and a Bible? You'd prefer a scimitar and a Koran?

Obviously you are speaking as an American. The forum is international...one in 160 or so countries. So the 1st Amendment is an internal issue for you guys to sort out.

Every country on earth should adopt the 1st Amendment as soon as possible, sooner, preferably, considering how many people have gone to jail for "insulting" Islam (i.e., speaking the truth about it).

It is interesting that so many people adopted his other practices but they drew the line on that one. I wonder if they were just cherry picking and were not true believers? That should be the test to determine who really believes in their favorite imaginary character. https://sunnah.com/urn/1253140

I think the world better watch America fall first. Speculate later if anything they did should ever be done again.

Christianity is a cult. Just a successful one which I guess would make them immune.

America is the greatest nation in the history of the planet. Every country that mimics America does well. Every country that does something different fails. The reason America is "falling" is because we've stopped doing what we had been doing, i.e., be a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant capitalist nation.

I guess so. But as cults are Christian based (but control in their DNA) perhaps the churches should discourage cults from forming.
I dont have all the answers.

I lost a niece to a cult. My sister lost her daughter and two grandsons. Her head pastor is obviously a narcissist and controls what family members she can keep in contact with.

    A sad state of affairs.

Churches here in Oz arent taxed. Perhaps there is an avenue there to pursue but I'd doubt it.

I have often wondered how the government gets away with making the Peyote Religion illegal for most races in this country, religious freedom should prevent that abuse by the government trying to restrict religious freeodom

Determine "great". I like the USA in many ways but blind patriotism gets to a point whereby you dont see your own misgivings.
Not for me to list them.

Maybe it's atheism that's the cult.

I don't care what others believe, why do you?

Sure when religious groups try to tell everyone how they should live their lives I care. Particularly when they use their clout to get laws passed that restrict individual. freedoms. Contraceptive bans, Sunday dry laws, gay marriage, drug laws, etc, etc.

You mean it is OK under Catholic dogma to think about boys while masturbating?

well, this op is about making cults illegal, & it should concern everyone, why? because, as you've pointed out, nearly everything can be considered a cult, including belonging to any political party, joining a gym, any sports activity, even following a favorite pro team...

OK so you don't mind religious cults. How about State Sponsored Propaganda/ Sophisticated Mind Control techniques. Could we at least ban that ?
