    Yes
Basically called “dark” because we mostly cannot see it, and so cannot devise experiments to better undrstand it

And Humans are as the iridescent beautiful mayflies, that live briefly for a few golden moments, and skittle a little dance, and poofers, gone and completely insignificant in the grand scheme of the Megaverse.

Yet we can see effects of matter drawn into black holes and collect data continually on such event horizons.

Complex Computer programs and models extrapolate data on black holes.

If the big bang was 14 billion years ago, then our universe cant exist beyond 14 billion light years from 'ground zero', right? Space for stuff to exist in may be infinite, but if everything came from a dot 14 billion years ago, then nothing is beyond that.

If the bang is spherical (as all explosions are) and thus the expansion is as well, then we can see from here to the center dot, but there is an equal expansion taking place in the other half of the sphere that we don't see.

But don't forget that the Universe is expanding at an accelerating rate due to dark energy. So, the actual size of the universe is larger than 14 billion light years across.

True. How fast are we moving away from 'ground zero'?

Was the initial explosion slower than how fast we're moving now?

I don't know how fast it is.

But I think that inflation theory says there was an initial expansion that was faster than the speed of light.

So it sped up, slowed down, and is speeding back up?

It's not so much sped up again as new spacetime is being created between each other. The gulf between objects is growing because new space is appearing there.

I don't know I assume it's being created. How would it be absorbed?

From a different time-space or reality.

Seems more likely than it being 'created' (or whats creating it?).

Is space created? Space is still uh...space and space is...uh again...nothing....(or is that idea hopelessly outmoded?). So how could nothing be created? Now I have heard that "empty" space is full of energy, but then again I understand that energy is "virtual". That is, it comes into existence and just as quickly winks out, so its not really there in the end (mind, this doesn't refer to regular energy, radiation etc. nor is it this "dark" energy, (I think, though I believe there are some who think ti may be, or may be part of it)

Excuse me, I have to go back to trying to program my VCR.

Think of a jelly fish pulsing, I believe that time and space is not a constant, that throughout as phase shifts in time and space speed is relative to dimensional shifts and balances.

To demonstrate phase shift, a sine wave on an oscilloscope, it shifts, and if that is a physical object you would see it disappear or be able to pass through it as a mirage.

The doppler effect is another example.

    My take:

We're in a 4D black hole located in a 5D universe. The black hole is active and pulling in matter thus growing in size. As this matter is 4D we can't directly observe it. Dark matter.

Some of this matter is converted into energy. As this energy originates outside our universe it has no apparent cause. Dark energy.

Masses of dark matter have been plotted based on their effects on what? (gravity or light). It has been suggested that dark energy is mind/consciousness. Accelerated expansion is due to (growth of consciousness?). If I can find where I read about these notions, I'll get back with more specific news, which may be just as useless.
