Flood stories are global. From Wikipedia: "The flood myth motif is found among many cultures as seen in the Mesopotamian flood stories, Deucalion and Pyrrha in Greek mythology, the Genesis flood narrative, Pralaya in Hinduism, the Gun-Yu in Chinese mythology, Bergelmir in Norse mythology, in the lore of the K'iche' and Maya peoples in Mesoamerica, the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa tribe of Native Americans in North America, the Muisca, and Cañari Confederation, in South America, and the Aboriginal tribes in southern Australia."
If the world was flooded and everyone died but Noah and Co....who told everyone about it? How did polar bears walk to the Middle East and where did they store all the food for 40 days? For that matter who shoveled all the poop?
Strictly speaking just about all of the large cats (lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, so forth) are still one species although they look completely different from each other. Lions and tigers are capable of producing fertile offspring which would not be the case if they were truly different species = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigon
There were no dinosaurs, that was just a trick God played to fool us all....I'm amazed you did not know that.
Absolutely. But it is the go to answer when one tries logic with hard core believers. It's like the get out of jail free card.
I understand the Hebrew flood myth pretty well so you don't need to explain. I see evidence of flooding in the past, but that happens because rain is a thing. There is no evidence of a global 1-year flood at exactly 5,000 years ago. You can choose to believe it because of faith, but most people aren't. There are a lot of logistical problems with a global flood and the Noah story, and yes, these things can be resolved with magic, but unless you can independently prove these magical forces exist to fix these problems, then the global flood has major problems.
I appreciate the well thought out response. Most if not all mythology is based on kernels of truth. In fact, the idea of the whole known world being flooded instead of the whole planet was what I was personally taught growing up in a Christian home. The problems arise when the author brings up the absurd exaggerations in the myths like holding all those animals for a year in that boat. think of the suffocation that would have occurred in that airtight environment. My second problem is even if the story is based on a kernel of truth, the exaggerations and the inability of many people (especially religious leaders) to clarify the text, leads me to conclude that this is not the words of an all powerful deity.
If more Hindus were present on this forum, I'd call them out on their mythology. My question I'd ask them is: How are all these stories supposed to help me in my journey to achieving Nirvana?
So someone whom I've put on ignore apparently thought it was a clever idea put a link to the Ark Encounter to prove a point. Problem is, that's not even a boat. It's a building. Go to one minute in to this video:
Yes, most myths are indeed base on a bit of truth. I think they have to be to survive. There's a reason most religions are called faiths. You basically take on faith what is being taught about any religion. There so much in this world, universe that is unknown and unexplained, Trying to put a rational or a sane reason on something isn't always possible. Some may attribute a lot of things to the super natural. God or gods would fall into that category. I have no problem with those who believe in god, no problem with those who don't. What or whom someone believes in is entirely up them. What I do have a problem with is those trying to force their beliefs on me or even non-beliefs. I'm for anything that brings inner peace to oneself. A person at peace within or with oneself is more apt to be at peace with the world. How one attains that, is entirely up to them.
You need to rephrase this comment to with god and the suspension of critical thinking all things are possible.
I think that technologically advanced aliens sent by G-d may have been involved......... http://www.allaboutchristian.com/spirituality/
Sumerian creation myth. ' When the tablet resumes, it is describing the flood. A terrible storm rocks the huge boat for seven days and seven nights, then Utu (the Sun god) appears and Zi-ud-sura creates an opening in the boat, prostrates himself, and sacrifices oxen and sheep. After another break, the text resumes: the flood is apparently over, the animals disembark and Zi-ud-sura prostrates himself before An (sky-god) and Enlil (chief of the gods), who give him eternal life and take him to dwell in Dilmun for "preserving the animals and the seed of mankind". The remainder of the poem is lost.[3] The flood mythos possibly relates to a factual Sumerian flood.
Well its in the Bible so is true, a wonder of the mighty living God and so since He can do anything within His vast power is enough for me that's why its faith and not knowledge. Why its not in the records of science after the fall of man and the coming of hybrid demon humans into the genetic pool the effect on all of creation was just shattering with corruption and hid all the evidence so well as to make it seem like science got it right as my proposal for this and the histories and such demonstrating ancient humans is corrupted although after the flood some people likely lived in caves and made primitive tools like now in some places remote in nature now. And the lesson with the end times coming don't mate with aliens or demons or whatever these creatures appear as so your DNA is not marked by The Beast Satan regardless how pleasant it means death like before flood but torment and horror apart from God in Hell or He might be merciful and just end you forever. And don't piss of God He is merciful but also will not show mercy forever His mercy isn't boundless your With Him or Against Him.
Of course there's a lesson to be learnt from the Flood story. Don't p..s of the weather forecaster. .
I highly doubt ANYONE here is willing to admit or actually believes the Story as written in the Bible is accurate or meant as anything more than allegory and lesson on the God they worship. Please correct me if I am wrong.
That amusement park was built here in Kentucky and my fantastic governor thought I should help pay for it. Pisses me off.
Pretty funny stuff Just hard to believe that many 'adults' still actually believe that childish crap...
I don't know your politics, but I'd suggest you vote your governor out in next year's off year elections. edit: wait... maybe both parties are complicit because the current governor's predecessor was from the other party. One green lighted the project while the other let it keep going. Yeah, upon looking it up, it was a Democrat responsible for it. Find a primary candidate from either party who will promise to cut state funds.
