Another special election, another Democratic Party flip in a deep deep red territory.

Up for grabs was Kentucky's House District 49, a seat vacated when "Pastor" Dan Johnson committed suicide after being accused of molesting a 17 year old girl.

This was the same Dan Johnson who thought it would be funny to post racist pictures of Barack and Michelle Obama.

    The wave continues.

A republican pastor accused of molesting an underage girl, eh

Why doesn't that surprise me even a little.

At any rate, great to see the wave sweeping thru KY... :democrat:

From article: "However, Belcher [Democrat] has previously represented the district and narrowly lost a re-election bid in 2016 by less than 200 votes"

The Democrat Belcher previously held that seat and then nearly lost it in 2016 and regained it in 2018.

I don't see how this was a big win for Democrats. Regaining a seat that you previously held is no big deal.

It surprises me that it wasn't an underage boy.

I saw that too. This win is about as ground breaking as beating an accused child molester.

Only 1200 more seats to pick up to get to 2008 levels.

Did you see this part too?

"Trump won this district by 50 points. Linda Belcher just took this Kentucky House seat by 36—an 86-point turnaround."

Trumps 50 point win only led to a loss by 200 votes by this same incumbant candidate. Then she won again during a special election none of us even knew about.

The issue with this line is that you are comparing one year of special elections to eight years of special elections, a presidential election year, and two midterm election years. So let's check the "score" in 2028 then.

The OP notes that this is the 37th seat to flip from Republican to Democrat since the election. Do you know how many seats have flipped from Democrat to Republican during the same time frame?

This always comes as a shock to Democrats because they only ever vote based on party.

    Not everyone does that.

Non-Democrats look at the candidate, not just the letter next to their name.

Btw you're not getting Congress back this year and you wont get the White House back in 2020.

Let me fix that for you.

This always comes as a shock to Republicans because they only ever vote based on party.

Non-Republicans look at the candidate, not just the letter next to their name.

Btw Congress is up for grabs this year and Trump wont get re-elected in 2020.

The narrative from the right is that Trump is an infallible god living amongst us and that red support for him is unshakable because of his undeniable flawlessness.

This seat flipping back to blue puts the lie tot hat and is apparently the 37th example of this phenomenon.

If the trump government was really as strong as they bullshit about being then it would be 37 blue seats flipping red.

Yea voted "worst" on day 1 by bigots who still benefit from his MAGA.

Same sort of ignorance that gave Obama a Peace Prize on day 1 for doing literally nothing.

I never agree with you on anything, but there's a first time for everything.... This is not a big deal... However.......

The significant election is coming up on March 13th in Western Penn...... I expect Conor Lamb (D) to lose to Rick Saccone (R) in this R stronghold (and the RW will go bananas on here), but I also expect it to be much closer than the district normally goes.

    SNIP
Trump’s endorsement of Saccone made 5 percent of respondents say they were more likely to back Saccone; it made 8 percent say they were more likely to support Lamb.

After all, the stakes are enormous. As the polls narrow—the latest has Lamb just 3 points behind Saccone—this race is being closely watched by political seismologists for early tremors of an oncoming blue tsunami in the November midterms. If Lamb, a virtual unknown five months ago, can win this once seemingly impregnable Republican stronghold—one that so overwhelmingly supported Trump just 16 months ago, then other Democratic candidates across the country can do the same.
    ENDSNIP

    https://www.politico.com/magazine/s...-pennsylvania-special-election-profile-217018

If this race goes D, I would expect to see Trump stop endorsing any future local races, as it will be obvious how toxic he is....

So does the wind. But if the wind only blew in the same direction 37 times in a row, that fact would be discussed on a weather forum.

Redistricting has made an impact across the nation. Conservatives will have difficulty ever holding a majority again. I believe it's unconstitutional to disenfranchise any segment of the population, including conservatives.
