If it was only the Democrats.

An executive doesn't get a $100M salary without government protecting the company from competition. It isn't just Republican's protecting big business, because it isn't just Republican's getting large campaign contributions from big business.

Microsoft didn't "invest" in lobbyist until the government started "investigating" their business practices. Microsoft learned it's lesson.

Are the rich and big businesses going to get taxed, not likely. But it makes for good TV. Both sides get to feed their base the crap they want to hear. The party faithful get talking points to argue on forums.

Add a couple of hundred issues to keep our spleen in an uproar, and the magicians in DC keep us so busy we don't notice the graft.

It isn't that liberalism or conservatism are bad. They are, after all, simply points of view. It is partisanship that is bad.

The head of Marketing at Georgia State earns 600K a year... and college tuitions have increased 400%....

    Just a bit of trivia.

It isn't trivia when this happens in plain sight.

In 2008 and 2009, California was $10B in debt to the federal government for unemployment, and another $10B over budget. Yet, many of the, already well paid, professors in California funded schools big raises. Were the schools afraid they would lose those professors to private industry? To another, but not state funded school, to another state funded school. All of them?

The media watch dogs don't say a peep, the other party doesn't say a peep....

Is this some dark conspiracy, not in the slightest. It is human nature combined with concentrated power. The same people influencing politicians and regulators, buy advertising with the media.

    How did we get here?

Elections got more expensive, donations from voters are small. But special interest, corporations, unions, the religious right, various minority groups, provide larger donation, providing they get something in return. If the politician doesn't come through, next election that funding is used against them.

We are all familiar with special tax loopholes. What is less well known is the much greater power of laws and the resulting regulation.

If MegaBeer wants to reduce the competition from microbreweries, get regulations drawn up that require calorie and nutrition information for each beer "to make sure the public knows what it is getting", done by approved, and expensive labs. When you sell millions of bottles and $100K test isn't significant, but if you sell less than 10,000 a year....

HealthIns inc and a few of the competitors petition the state to limit the number of insurers "to assure companies are big enough to deal with a pandemic". Notice you don't see commercials for medical coverage the way you do for car insurance (save $523 dollars a year by switching to.....).

When government has power, that power will be abused.

Limiting the power of Government, to what is in the Constitution, would be a big step in the right direction.

I love it when conservatives try to criticize Democrats for supporting policies that conservatives vehemently support themselves.

The cognitive dissonance of the **********s is mind boggling.

Republicans are honest about it, Democrats lie every time their lips move.

What I don't understand is the Democrats compulsion to use derogatory names for anyone that disagrees with them.

All politicians, unfortunately, are frauds. Don't attack just one side.

Politicians from both sides of the aisle have funded their own interests over the years. Party lines don't really matter when it comes to personal gain. Look Michelle Obama's ties to Treehouse corporation (she took millions of dollars in salary) and the Bidens' family connections in lobbyist firms. This kind of corruption is rampant in the system so much that most people ignore it nowadays.

However, it is hard to ignore the recent events, like Congress funding a project for one of Pelosi's family members, spending over $10 million per new job created in this project, or the white house's coverup of Solyndra. Or maybe we should ignore how Obama talked about getting rid of lobbyists from Washington, but then attempted to insert former lobbyist Tom Daschle and many others into his cabinet. Its all about lying nowadays.
