A bunch of liberal co-workers were talking about this today and they were really excited. They thought 5 billion to get rid of assault rifles and money to fight climate change was the best deal ever. I have never seen such support for Trump at work.

Certainly, there are some sane Democrats left in the party, but I think your cartoon speaks to what is going to get the nomenklatura in the Party of Big Government to crack - the apparatchiks in the federal government missing their paychecks.

Given how the Democratic party is joined at the hip with the federal bureaucracy and its public sector unions like corrupt Saimese twins, I've always considered these shutdowns more politically dangerous for Dims than Republicans, and the fact the GOP took over the Senate after the 2013 only reinforces that impression in my mind.

We'll see how many paychecks UpChuck and Blinky's political stunt can last, but I figure the longer they drag this thing out the worse things are going to get for them. On the other hand, Trump's party and base are firmly behind him and a lot of people on the Right don't consider the shutdown the crisis the Left is trying to make it out to be (I'm sure a lot of independents and centrists feel the same way). For people who consider the federal government too big, too intrusive and too expensive, they see this as another opportunity for the public to remind itself just how nonessential much of the government is and how much of it can get cut. That doesn't help the big tax and spenders in the Democratic party, either.

If the Dims are smart (I know), they'll figure out a way to get something (DACA?) for the $5 billion they're going to have to fork over to get their precious engine of regulation and redistribution back open soon.

The first paycheck has been missed and the next one is up. Tick tock....

By the time democrats regained power after trump is Victorious in this battle the laws will be much different. Nancy Pelosi knows that the democrats have to go to the mat on this. Too many Democrat States are tied up in aiding and abetting criminals. The people you called undocumented immigrants...

Pelosi is throwing the heartland Democrats under the bus.

Collin Peterson (D) Minnesota 7th has won his district since the early 90s and he is getting calls for the wall funding at a pace of over 10 to 1.

This issue alone will decide the Senate race in Alabama in 2020.

Not exactly. It would have to be limited to the scope of the emergency. As an example they could not pay for your jock itch cream but cancer being a disease causing many deaths throughout the nation could be fully covered by government.

    That is how politics works.
A party does something questionable. The other party whines about it.
Then that other party does it, and the party that did it originally whines about it.
Then it becomes the new norm.
And both parties got what they wanted all the time. More power.

It's not even CNN saying it. It's just Breitfart propaganda trying to make something out of little nothingburger quotations from a few Congressional Democrats.

They think they are going to declare a national emergency and send the military around gun grabbing.

Well, the funny part about that is most of 'em don't even know what an assault weapon is. If they see a semiauto rifle that looks "assaulty" they'll ban it and fly face first into losing a court battle on account of that damned Constitution of ours.

Why do you laugh about innocent men, women and children being slaughtered due to insane gun laws?

The new working tactic is to promise that someone else will pay for it.

Off topic. You probably don't realize that protecting our own borders is as constitutional as the second amendment.

If you're serious about protecting borders, you won't insist on a grand waste of funds that could be much more effectly used to that end.

Only MAGA would contemplate doing something like that.
