I don’t know if anyone was extremely surprised by the result, but I wasn’t.

Nevertheless, in terms of recovering from COVID-19, Biden’s USA didn’t do that badly compared with the other rich countries.
Post-COVID inflation was a worldwide issue in all countries and not caused specifically by Biden. But in terms of employment, social security, and COVID recovery, the figures don’t look that bad.

However, there are several points though, that made the Democrats chanceless:

    Illegal Immigration:
    https://i0.wp.com/borderoversight.o...024/08/wola_migration_charts.001-13.png?ssl=1

The graph shows how the number of confrontations with border patrols already jumped during Trump’s last year (which also may be mentioned), but then, under Biden, it skyrocketed to record heights.
In 2024 you see how the Biden administration is taking measures in cooperation with the southern countries, and the graph jumps down again to almost Trump levels.
However, this was much too late. Society had already been disrupted by the sky-high peak and people are worried and angry.

    Woke Extremism
Political tolerance toward the extreme side of woke had risen to such an extent, that it started to influence schools, and therefore families with worried parents.
Lose your families, and you will lose the elections, no matter what the other side does. It is as simple as that.
The extreme side of woke has become a cult that has nothing to do anymore with equal rights for everybody.
Children need to be taught they can be special through their achievements, not by just having a special gender!

    The Harris agenda:
The Harris agenda was unbalanced by focusing too much on the social side, just like the Trump agenda is unbalanced by focusing too much on the economy. The truth is that the social well-being of the people and the economy are mutually dependent on each other. The economy won’t run smoothly if there is social unrest, and you can’t finance social security if the economy is neglected.

    Regulations:
Regulations are crucial for a country's safety. We don’t want to see any idiot be able to produce the medical drugs that we give to our children and ourselves.
However, the USA is becoming excessively regulated (surpassing Europe in that sense). This conflicts with the country's pioneer spirit and it makes life difficult for many small companies as they can't cope with the high overhead and mountains of paperwork.

    Summarized:
I think Trump could have killed someone and he still would have won the elections.
Democrats were bang out of line with some super-sensitive points because they failed to keep the common-sense middle road with a common-sense balance between social security, the economy, and the environment.

It is time for them for some self-reflection.

I think you left out something important. The constant attacks coming from Democrat officials against Republican voters.... Repeatedly calling them uneducated and fascist supporters and on and on.

Turns out that doesn't play very well with the masses of the common people.

He literally said he could kill someone on 5th ave and his loyalists would still support him.

Why didn't Harris get the same support as Biden did (she was short some 12 millions votes)?

    1. Back in 2020 Trump has been in office for 4 yrs and people were sick and tired of his divisive BS.
    2. Harris campaign flat out failed to:
    • 2.1 Sell her as a good choice, when lot of people just don't like her.
    • 2.2.Highlight the BS Trump was pushing about having had "best economy in history of mankind" or "China pays the tariffs",
    • 2.3. The danger of the the trade wars which Trump promotes
    • 2.4. Sell the positive aspects of the past 4 yrs
    3. Biden should have stepped down in Jan and let primaries decide the nominee

Summary: Team Harris failed to energize people to show up

The only people who'd be butthurt about that would be the Republican voters, who will pull for their own candidate no matter what. Same is true about calling Dems moochers, leeches, commies, marxists, muslim lovers, unamerican etc.

Most people have thicker skins than you think. They don't really give a rip.

I have pointed out this already on this board, but I feel that it needs repeating. In 2020, Biden had 81,283,501 to Trump's 74,223,975 votes. In 2020, Trump has 74,834,220 to Harris' 71,239,698 votes. What do you see there? Trump gained a mere 610,241 votes and Harris lost 10,043,803 votes. First, in an election where there were more then 146 million votes casted and a margin of victory just under 3.6 million votes is not a landslide. Granted winning by 86 electoral votes, or taking 33 to 17, states could be considered a landslide. The Biden Administration alienated most of the DNC. Progressives did not show up at the polls because of the Administration support of Israel. The Progressives have joined the Neo-Nazis with their antisemitism rhetoric. (It didn't help that Harris was married to a Jew.) They also alienated moderate Democrats (those that used to be called Blue Dog Democrat). They dd this through supporting Transgender men competing in women sports. The pushing to allow school boards to change student's gender identity without talking to parents first. Pushing to allow gender reassignment surgery for children. Pushing to nationalize abortions when the SCOTUS got it right to allow states to decide when abortions will be allowed for themselves. Policies of Biden allowing an open border, and being soft on crime, But the big thing pushed the DNC faithful away is the fake investigations and trials persecution of Donald J. Trump.

Are you still claiming to be a Republican, despite all evidence to the contrary?

No, I have never been, or claimed to be, a Republican.

What evidence are you referring to anyway? Are you arguing Republicans were going to vote for Harris until someone said something mean about them? No, they were always going to vote for GOP, and Dems were always going to vote for their candidate.

Yea, don't waste your time, - I never said it. I am not Republican, or Democrat, and voted for neither candidate this time, and it has nothing do with anyone saying "mean things" about either side. My only point was to say that people are not as sensitive to "mean comments" as some think

Well look who you are comparing to, liberal politicians and governments in other countries who did the same bad policies as Biden. Biden was handed a robust recovery with low if any inflation pressures. He and Harris like He and Obama did exactly the opposite of what needed to be done so they could pass HUGE spending bills and hand out free money and try to run the economy. Both failed.

Why would you have expected her with her lackluster record as a politician and Senator and low favorable rankings?

And there was a coverup of the Biden influence peddling going on and the continued lawfare against Trump.

She was never a good choice to sell, people saw her for who she is and for she stands and roundly rejected it.

Oh good grief the MSM was all over it with their fallacious "fact-checking"

It was ALL Harris ran on.

Because the only positives were getting over the negatives they created and no one was buying their lies about it.

Well you should have listen to those of us who were saying so.

I think they had a HUGE turnout approaching the 2020 record turnout, more people were voting for Trump.

Hard disagree. While I'm not too surprised (aside from the popular vote), the one thing that is clear is that facts no longer matter. This is a feelings-based political economy. Dems tried appealing to facts. It failed. Feels are more important, unfortunately. The GOP has been leaning hard on feels for decades, and it has paid off. Dems just don't have the media influence or the personality influence that the right has. Issues don't matter that much. Policies don't matter that much. It's all image and feelings.

The obvious contempt for the American voter certainly motivated some people who probably wouldn't have voted to go out and vote against them.

Like I said, same it true for both sides, and I gave you plenty of examples, but most people don't take it personally, unless they want to play the victim.

As for motivation, Republicans will vote GOP, and Dems will vote for their pic, and petty insults won't will change that. You can call Dems any name you want without fear of losing any votes.

this has to be one of the most hypocritical posts i've seen here in a long time. you're whining about "feelz"? the democrats have been playing that particular card for decades. from "today i feel like a woman, so i am a woman" to that warm fuzzy feeling of moral superiority y'all get from embracing the world's poor and bringing them into our country at the expense of our own poor and disenfranchised, illusions and feelings are all that have kept the democrat from being laughed off the stage. here's a little fact for you, for every illegal immigrant y'all turn a blind eye to and allow to work in this country, one american citizen is added to the unemployment rolls. now multiply that by a few million and you begin to see what that feeling of moral superiority is actually costing us all. and then there's this blithering about the media and celebrity endorsements. abc, nbc, cbs, cnn, msnbc, the new york times, the los angeles times... these are only the most obvious that anyone with a dollar in their pocket or access to a television can be "informed" by, would you like me to go on? i can do this all day. each and every one of the above mentioned has been carrying water for the democratic party for decades, touting nonexistent democrat gains while misrepresenting or simply burying the accomplishments of their opponents. and just how many million dollars did the harris campaign spend on concerts and celebrity endorsements? from swifties to aging oprah fans, across the country they tried to turn fandom into political support. if these celebrities believed so much in the progressive cause, why was it they didn't see fit to simply donate their time and resources? face it, the democratic party is the modern day home of identity politics.

no, issues and policy do matter. imposing a nationwide "right to abortion", as opposed to turning such things over to the states, doesn't appear to be such an important issue. flooding the country with illegal immigrants, criminals, and drugs doesn't seem to be such a good policy. despite the attempt to trash trumps image over the last decade or so, his issues and his policies prevailed.

Maybe I'm saying it wrong, since I tried several times and it doesn't seem to get through.

It works the same both ways. You can call Dems vermin, commies, enemies, evil, marxists, leeches, unamerican, etc, but it's not going to change their votes, because they weren't going to vote for Trump anyway. Same is true with Trump loyalists, - they never going to pull for Harris.

If there are people who decided on their vote because someone said something mean, then they are....well.....special kind of cupcakes whose feeling are always hurt over something.

In short: butt-hurt feelings didn't decide these elections, and if they did then the GOP has changed even more than I had imagined, and Trump won for all the wrong reasons.

Kamala's policy was to keep the war in Ukraine going, no need to bother reassessing
    or changing anything.

Right now there are about 1,000 people dying per day in the war in Ukraine.

    But Kamala isn't interested

    in that or anything else.

You must have missed such things as white dudes for Kamala.... Sit there and call them every name under the Sun but then beg for their vote.

Trump has said a couple of things referring to voters that he shouldn't have but he is usually punching up while Democrats are punching down upon the people and they did this consistently over a period of time with many of them.

It displays their contempt for the people they wish to rule over. They can go piss off.

The political reality is that it was primarily people being unhappy with the economy, deluded and misled as they may be. Politically, democrats lack a messenger as forceful, loud and confident as Trump. Neither Biden nor Harris were able to effectively communicate the success of the economy's recovery.

Letting trans people be themselves is a matter of pragmatic policy. Whether they "truly are" their desired gender in any way is completely irrelevant to our lives. Republicans take what should be a completely private issue between doctors and patients, and run with it to create idiotic moral outrage. That's the feels.

Except the facts don't support your narrative. Immigrants, even illegal ones, ARE a net benefit for cost of living, productivity, and crime. It's the republican feels again - whether it be racism, some lighter shade of nativism, or typical lies about the economy.

No, you've been misled. They do jobs and create them. The main thing to avoid is them NOT working, because that would be a net negative to the economy.

    Yeah there's some fluff there.

Policy should matter, but voters can't help with that because they're so badly misinformed by Trump, Fox, and other conservatives.

No, inflation did get high for a few months, and indications were that it would return
and most likely higher if the dollar lost value as appeared likely.

Biden wanted a war with China as well as Iran and Ukraine. And when he decided
everyone trading with Russia would have to do it without using dollars or SWIFT,
that was a big encouragement to cash in your dollars.

The dollar hasn't gone down a lot and is likely to make some kind of recovery
because other countries also have problems too, but our problems were due
to a special level of stupidity that only Biden and the Neocons can make.

Your perspective is a bit confounded by being confused on who it was that wanted war. Russia wanted war, albeit a much quicker one, to take over Ukraine. That caused problems for the whole world economy. America took steps to counter Russian aggression.

Inflation was high in the vast majority of major economies even before that, due to post-covid demand. Inflation was exacerbated by the Ukraine war as well. The US has recovered better from the inflation than most.

Neither party, not Trump nor Biden, wanted war with China. There have been issues with China not playing fair, wanting to take over Taiwan, and wanting to control ocean outside of their traditional waters - but war with them - catastrophic. And it's democrats who tried to make a peaceful deal with Iran to constrain nuclear capabilities. It's Trump that tore it up.

Combined with that were economic issues.

The unemployment rate is low, but it has been becoming harder to be able to get "good" jobs.
Then the high inflation rate that has been going on. (Although they think that has now "stabilized" down to an only moderately high inflation rate of 2%. Still, prices have gone up and are not coming back down)
And finally price increases in general, especially housing. A large part of that has to do with the high immigration levels that have been driving population increase.

When lots of new housing has to be built, prices are going to go up. And also there are many areas that are running out of land space. Especially in the most desirable destination areas where the immigrant population is increasing the fastest.

You can catch more flies with sugar than vinegar. They shouldn't have to be told that insulting the voters will not win them votes. You can insult and slander a politician but NEVER the voters themselves. That's an unspoken rule that has held true as long as we've had elections. Their obnoxious, judgmental arrogance did them in. All the outrageous lies served as an insult to our intelligence.
