Just about everyone knows about desertification on land but hypoxia in the ocean is seldom discussed and it appears that once again man plays a major role.

Deserts are growing due to soil degradation from various causes....some natural...most brought on by man. Proof is in the fact some desert land is being reclaimed by man.

Deserts form on the boundary of Hadley Cells. That won't change anytime soon. They may move north or south but they will not expand in a warmer world where the atmosphere is supposed to hold more water vapor. If anything, cooling causes more problems.

Ever since I was a kid in the 50s I heard about deserts growing and by now the Sahara was supposed to have taken over most of Africa. It was just another one of those sky is falling things that didn't pan out as advertised

People have been dying of disease for thousands of years. So why try to do anything about it....it's a natural thing.

Hard for me to compare natural weather patterns to polio but if that works for you go with it.

They have restored the Loess Plateau in China from worthless dry land to productive farmland. The disease of desertification can be placed in remission with planning and proper management. Man can restore desert lands. Not all of them of course but the deserts we make can be restored.

That's fine but it's about man and feeding us and not about the earth itself. Earth doesn't know or care about sea level or desertification or ice ages or anything else. For earth there's no such thing as good or bad weather, that is a concept held only by man.

    Ya think?
    I'm not sure everyone does.

"Report after report tells us our planet is in trouble. Most recently, two teams of researchers concluded that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet’s gradual collapse due to global warming has become unstoppable; as a result, sea levels will rise by feet, not inches, in the centuries to come. This is just one of the many frightening effects of climate change."

Researchers: 2017 Dead Zone in Gulf of Mexico Biggest Ever
August 02, 2017 - The Gulf of Mexico's "dead zone" — the area where there's too little oxygen to support marine life — is the biggest ever measured this year.

And yet, the Pruitt EPA has levied about 25% of the fines, compared to the first 6 months of the last 3 presidents. Doesn't bode well for the Mississippi River or the Gulf.

Ah, another alarmist article not tethered to actual observed science. Do you also look under your bed for bogeymen?

the birthplace of humanity, where ape became man, used to be lush grasslands and forest with rich vegetation and food. Primitive 'man' migrated out to the rest of the world as it droughted and became desert.

it was prolly because of all the internal combustion and fossil fuels the cavemen used, right?

Hey, maybe we can tell that to the future generations - "The cavemen did it."
