    His viewers are dying off.

Most of them are around 70 years old by now.

Well, as far as typical televangelists go, he was pretty benign.
I can think of numerous other famous ones that make him look like a saint in comparison.

Far be it from me to suggest otherwise. I'm just a tad more pissed at him because I did 3 years as a Peace Corp Volunteer while Mobutu reigned and was personally disgusted by Robertson's activities here.

Do you care to tell us exactly what those activities were and how it has anything to do with you being in Zaire?

Aside from his personal diamond mining attempt using equipment flown in by his tax exempt planes he did a lot of outdoor preaching very loud in English and then just as loud translated into the local languages. I was not here for that but a whole industry sprung up of "preachers" giving very loud services in two languages for hours in residential neighborhoods. Money collections from poor people frequent during the services. People don't complain about the noise because they don't want to risk pissing off God but the Bible actually condemns this during hours that should be for repose. How many billions of man hours of rest and sleep lost because he taught others how to make a buck preaching. If you check, the Catholics and Protestants do quite services in the early mornings, the Catholics call them High Masses without singing. The Bible is why they do that.
But it's his deals with dictators for personal mining that really show what and Ass he is, excuse me, was.

Actually, he taught T^^^everything he knows about fleecing money. He didn't own the huge mansion, nor pay the staff nor pay taxes on it his "church" did. Nor the limos and planes he used for personal activities, his "church"did. On and on it goes his "church" did. T^^^won't own the boat nor pay the crew with his money his PAC fund will. He won't pay for the hookers and parties and Big Macs, his PAC will. He will be bankrupt but living the life of Pat.

Dig up some of the threads after John McCain died & see how much hate some people can spew because someone disagrees slightly with their politics.

Nothing anyone here can say will match the hate Pat Robertson spewed over decades. There is a reason conservatives liked him so much.

Almost. Of course, people like him (and the fools who follow them) can always convince themselves that their god is on their side. Sort of puts a dent in the idea that having a god in heaven watching you makes people more moral. They are just as immoral as the rest (or moreso), they just have different rationalizations.

    RIP.

I watched his 700 Club occasionally back in the day. He politicized Christianity and I always found it distasteful when Christ was used as a political tool. Maybe some of the pastors find it difficult to separate politics from the Gospel, but its pretty common for them to stress on certain political wedge issues. Some might not have an actual political agenda, while others certainly use the pulpit for political activism, - like John Hagee who can't make one sermon without bringing politics into it.

They both used their positions to spread ignorance, intolerance, and hate. Good riddance.

Hatred is a terrible thing and leads to the totalarianism that the left is known for and being known for. When you wish death on these men, you wish death on the conservatives who believe as they do. Both of these men had strong Christian beliefs.....and neither of them demonstrated the hatred akin to the left...wishing death or personal destruction on those who disagree with them.

Guess he and his followers should’ve thought of this before he died, just like Fred Phelps. No reason to offer respect to anyone who thinks blaming natural disasters and terrorism on gay people or that it’s Gods wrath.

The power of the media is that it has the ability to control the emotions and opinions of clueless people who want to be told what to think and believe. Sound bites and cherry picked quotes taken out of context or without full context don't represent truth.

Do us all a favor and stop trying to defend shitty old evangelists who were alive longer than they needed to be.

You do realize that he still had to pay taxes on his personal income? So let's take a more clear and specific view of what you are complaining about. He did not pay corporate tax. He may have somewhat inappropriately used non-profit planes to transport machinery for something that was kind of a semi- for-profit venture. (Although much of the proceeds of the gold mine would also be used to fund the non-profit.)
You complain he made too much noise and bothered people, about a religious message you personally see as completely worthless.

He collected donations from poor people in Africa, which you suspect may have been used to fund his lavish lifestyle. But I think it's more likely all those donations coming from very poor people in Africa probably would have only been used to expand the preaching in Africa. The people were very poor. It wouldn't have been a lot of money. Robertson's organization had far larger sources of donation revenue coming from the U.S. that could be used to fund any excesses. Trying to go to Africa to collect money there to fund a lavish lifestyle in the U.S. just does not make logical sense. Highly unlikely that was the motivation or purpose.

Cherry picked snippets written by others. People who's hatred for someone is based purely on what others wrote ...writers intending to sway opinion.... are simply lemmings and tools.

Those are his own words, bro. And it says a whole lot about you if you’re doing your hardest to defend a piece of sht human being like him. None of it is good.

You misunderstand me. The mining equipment was HIS not the church's. His "church" paid for it to be transported to HIS mines not the "church's. Any profits would be HIS not the 'church's'. He tried this in at least two other countries led by dictators, even the pilots complained. Please do an actual search "Zaire robertson diamonds". Add "pilots" for their opinions of him. From what I have read he did this sort of thing a lot but his state was afraid to try and prosecute him.
He collected squat from the people here but he did train (inadvertently?) the thieves how to steal here that followed him. He was here for the diamonds. Period. Very load services with large speakers outside at 3 AM were common. If you asked the parishioners they'd tell you it shows their faith. I have succeeded in shutting some down by explaining to their parishioners that the Bible expressly forbids that and they are actually relieved.
He did, however, collect huge money from the poor in the US that helped finance a lavish lifestyle. People ate dog food so they could send him $20. Just try and find where he ever told poor people to keep their money, God doesn't need it. Meanwhile, one of his cars and houses.

Did he own them in his name? I don't know, I honestly would be surprised if he did because then he'd have to pay taxes on them. His personal net worth is estimated at $100 million.
