Did my dead brother communicate to our nephew during a dream?

My older brother, Jim, passed away a few years ago from cirrhosis. He was a hardcore alcoholic. We have a nephew named "Matt". Jim and Matt were never close to one another, in fact, they didn't like one another. They were cordial to one another but, behind one another's backs, they were critical. The truth is, both of their criticisms were valid, but that's beside the point. LOL. The point is, they were not close.

Jim expressed a strong faith in Jesus, even if he didn't exactly live a saintly life. Matt, while claiming to believe in God, is not at all religious, spiritual, etc. He never talk about God or how we came into existence or if there is Heaven, etc. The only time he's ever spoken of it is when I brought it up.

A year or so after Jim died, Matt drove my mother (his grandmother, obviously) to visit Jim's grave at a military cemetery an hour from where we live. It was a short and unremarkable visit.

That night, Matt had a dream. Matt dreamt that he walked into an office at Lowe's (where Jim used to work after retiring from the Navy) carrying a bunch of security tapes. The office phone rang, Matt answered and said "Hey Jim, I have the security tapes. What do you want me to do with them?" At that, Jim said "I know you and Mom came to see me today. I know that you couldn't see me, but I could see you. I had a lot of problems but I'm doing much better now".

At that, the dream apparently ended or segued into something non-related.

I about fell out of my chair when Matt shared that story with me. I will add that, Matt has NEVER been one to lie, embellish or brag, never. I believe that Matt did indeed have that dream.

My question for this forum is, do you believe it's possible that my brother did actually communicate to Matt? Or might it just have been a coincidental, weird dream? I should add, Matt has never had a dream anywhere like that before or since and I know because I asked.

Do you believe that Jim was communicating to our nephew from beyond the grave or do you think it was just a dream or was it something else?

It is possible. It is not particularly likely. But it does not really matter as long as Matt believes it represented communication and no harm comes directly or indirectly from his conviction. Its a matter of faith nor evidence. Start to worry if Jim comes back again, and tells him in another dream how to run his life in ways that impact others negatively.

I think it was a gift from Jim to us by letting us know that he is with Jesus and that he is doing "much better".

My belief is that, when we die, we don't magically transform into something else. We're still the same but, in the hereafter, we can continue to grow spiritually but are in a FAR better place to do so and free from all of the earthly temptations that hurt all of us.

When we die, we too will have to be "purged" of our sinful, earthly ways before we can actually enter into the kingdom of Heaven and be face-to-face with God. Upon dying, we're not pure enough to go straight to Heaven. In time, however, we will be!

I certainly respect your view even if I do not share it. If the effect of this paranormal visit, is that it feels like a gift, then I say feel the joy of the gift-giving and don't worry what sceptics think. We can't know it is not gift from Jim.

I've shared this story on other forums and some have responded with their own amazing, super natural stories.

There is nothing supernatural about a dream.

    Oh brother

We'll talk when this jesus-god character brings "Jim" (or better yet someone famous like Muhammad Ali) back to life...

It takes faith to believe in God, just like it takes faith to believe that the universe caused itself to come into existence.:lol::lol:

I'd argue that it takes delusion to believe in god, 'Buck.

Well, I don't want to hijack my own thread and turn it into another pissing match about whether or not we have a creator. Frankly, your "participation" in this thread has been for the sole purpose of trolling. A "delusion" is believing that the universe caused itself to come into existence.

If I were a betting man I'd bet it was a bonafide connection between Matt and "Jim". I put "Jim" in quotations because I believe viewing ourselves in the same manner as we knew ourselves or were known in the material realm creates an inaccurate understanding or picture of our true state.

If you notice, even in dreams we oftentimes become someone "different". We tend to forget "parts" of our lives and who we really are in regards to our material (awake) existence. It's as though a part of our memory is momentarily "erased" (ie, put aside) and we become someone else, yet we retain an "essence" of our material identity. In the dream state we may have little or no recall of our life, friends, lovers, family, and other themes common to our daily activities on earth. Yet, we still act as though everything was normal, and just carry on.

At "death", once the physical body can no longer function as a vehicle for material experience, I would view our true state of being in a similar manner as that of a dream. We continue on (because we never truly were born or died in the first place) but with a different sense of identity.

I would say it was "Jim", but that it was the "Jim part" of an infinitely greater (in awareness) state of being that holds a perceptual connection to this space/time/causal dimension of reality. As I see it, the Jim part is a tiny portion (perspective) of an infinite "soul" (Self). This infinite Self "tunes into" a dimension (timeline) of existence like a radio tunes into a station. At the moment of physical death, the perceptual existence of Self "tunes out" of that timeline. It continues to tune into other "stations", living multiple lives (perceptual existences) simultaneously.

There is a ton of evidence for reincarnation...and, if true, it would at least partly explain why we may feel so different on "the other side". With amnesia no longer a factor, the memories of the identities/lives of multiple life-times would come flooding through as we regain full integration with the soul Self. (The soul may perhaps be a veritable "memory bank" of all life-times & experiences in multiple dimensions/realities). So naturally we would not feel quite the same person as we did previously. We'd also not be constrained by the limited physical senses, allowing us a greater awareness of both Self and multiple dimensions/realities. Studies & stories from NDE (Near Death Experience) experiencers have a lot to tell us on these matters.

For myself, I can only go on logic, and what I've read & observed. But my girlfriend would tell you that certainly it was "Jim" that communicated with Matt, and would have no doubt about it. She's extremely psychic/sensitive and communicates (telepathically) with and sees "dead" people and pets all the time. She also communicates telepathically with animate (animals & plants) and inanimate objects of every kind (because ALL things are aware/have consciousness on some level). She also sees "auras", sees past/present/future of people, recalls several life-times in great detail (all of them with me, she says, though I don't recall a single one), has had numerous "ET" encounters since childhood, and so on. Plus it runs in her family. I'm as psychic as an door knob, and such abilities I've never come across until I met her. But it confirmed to me that ALL things have an awareness, because I had come to the conclusion long before that All is One. (She says, in her more eloquent way, that all things have a "voice".) So it would logically follow that every-thing (from "subatomic particles" to entire universes), without exception, must be aware & exist as consciousness. Now, more and more, scientists are coming to the same conclusion...yet they still stubbornly resist having to admit that "All is One", choosing instead to cover it up in fanciful scientific terminology. The ancients knew it and embraced it. Many indigenous groups know it and embrace it. Moder science is still lagging behind.

I would recommend you read the short 99-page book, The Astral World by Swami Panchadasi (a pseudonym for William Walker Atkinson who lived from 1862 - 1932). It explains everything in simple but remarkably detailed form about the different levels or planes that one may experience upon physical death...but from the perspective of an adept "astral" traveler/explorer. I bought the small but concise book for $3 many years ago before the internet, and am surprised hardly anyone knows about it. Thanks to the internet, it's available to read/download for free here:

    http://baytallaah.com/bookspdf/46.pdf

    or here:

    https://archive.org/details/astralworlditssc00panc/page/22

Other books I'd recommend are those by Dr. Michael Newton. Newton, a psychologist & master hypnotherapist, developed a hypnotherapy technique called LBL (Life Between Lives) therapy. (Certified LBL practitioners can be located online.) Two of his notable books are Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls, which detail hypnosis session of life between lives...that is, realities & activities that we engage in between life-times. His research/books include information from 7000 client sessions spanning 35 years. A former atheist, Newton accidentally stumbled across the discovery of past-lives.

Another hypnotherapist who became interested in life between lives is Brian Weiss, M.D. He, like Newton, had no interest or belief in past-lives before stumbling across this phenomenon. He has since written books detailing information from his client sessions.

And another researcher/hypnotherapist is Dolores Cannon, who has written numerous books on past-life regression, regressed thousands of people, and also developed a special hypnotherapy technique called QHHT (Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique). (Certified QHHT practitioners can be located online.) Some of her books also focus on the alien phenomenon.

Along with their books, you may find all these researchers/authors speaking & sharing great information on youtube as well. (Note: Newton & Cannon are deceased.)

Further, there are ways that you, or anyone, can easily access the "other side"...and that is through hypnosis. I view hypnosis as "guided meditation". It's a good method for those who struggle to reach altered states through meditation, astral projection & OBE's (Out of Body Experience), lucid dreaming, or who don't wish to partake of psychedelic drugs. Hypnosis is safe, effective, and offers a myriad of benefits & advantages that may be out of reach with the other methods...including even healing physical & psychological illnesses. I would recommend you find a professional hypnotherapist who is experienced in regressing clients to "past-lives" (including alien life-times), as well as the "higher self" for the purpose of clearing physical/psychological blockages, illness, phobias, etc...or simply just to explore other lives & dimensions if that's your desire. A practitioner certified in Dolores Cannon's QHHT or Michael Newton's LBL is a good place to start if you're interested in knowing more about and/or interested in physio-psycho healing. Dolores Cannon regressed thousands of people & wrote numerous fascinating books based on the information gleened from those sessions. You may find many QHHT practitioners on youtube giving live sessions if you wish to see what it's like. The information their clients reveal is absolutely fascinating! Alba Weinman is one such QHHT expert who's posted many mind-blowing client sessions on youtube.

It is ONLY theists who believe that superstitious MYTH about the "creation" of the universe from "nothing"!

As far as Science is concerned the Laws of Physics indicate that the Universe is ETERNAL meaning that matter/energy has always existed and will always exist in one form or another. We can only know what it is like in it's CURRENT form and then use OBSERVED evidence to determine what preceded this form and what form it could evolve into in the future.

And none of that has anything at all to do with the OP topic which is about a BELIEF that there was a "communication" from someone who is now deceased. That kind of INDIVIDUAL FAITH has no bearing on the physical existence of the Universe but it does apply to those who BELIEVE in an imaginary "creator" which is a logical paradox hence the NEED for faith.

I dunno which is consistent with being an agnostic. Yet I also think that consciousness may be fundamental instead of matter . If that is true the dead communicating with the living would be possible.

You're welcome. I asked my girlfriend if she would like to look at your post/story and give you her input on it. I'm very logical/left-brained and can only offer a very limited (mechanical) perspective...but I know she can give you a deeper perspective on your story because of her abilities...perhaps one that resonates with you more. She'll read it tomorrow and I will reply with her words.

OK...sorry for the wait. Here's what my girlfriend wanted to tell you regarding your post/story. She can't type well so I typed for her as she talked, and she talks fast...so forgive any grammatical errors. She used to do free readings for years and doesn't want to do them anymore...but, without going too deep, she had some additional thoughts to share with you as well.

hard to tell, I think we are more than our bodies, but not sure our memories survive death, as we lose memories while alive, so do we keep them after death? is the brain like a hard drive and we get a new brain in our next life, thus we start over fresh

now a person in a coma, would still be connected to their body, thus still have memories - but also if time is static, maybe the soul can connect to the past when the brain was still functioning too, so who really knows, anything is possible

Thanks and please thank your girlfriend.

Just for the record and, as I stated in my OP, Matt is the nephew of both Jim and I. Jim is NOT Matt's father.

    Thanks again.

The is no defined mechanism anyone has formally proposed by which consciousness could continue after death, let alone any mechanism by which the consciousness could directly influence the content of our dreams (lots of speculative beliefs but nothing clearly defined).

There are mechanisms by which the events and experiences when were awake can trigger and shape our dreams with countless examples of it happening, regardless of whether it involves a deceased person or not. You've probably even experienced it yourself. I know I have.

On that basis, I see absolutely zero justification to even speculate about such a specific idea as a deceased person directly altering a dream to pass on some kind of message. If you want to propose that as even being possible, you'd need a solid hypothesis and direct evidence.

    You're welcome.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I read your post to her and she had thought you said "my" nephew and thought it was your brother's son...but you said "our" nephew. Sorry for that. Aside from that, what she said regarding the dream still stands. The communication was indeed real and is one way she herself communicates with the "dead"...though also in her waking state. My deceased mom used to come to her frequently in both sleep & waking states...and would comfort her, warn her of future events, give her advice, etc...but has not been showing up as much as before. Like Jim was with Matt, I believe my mom is trying to make up for issues & misunderstandings she had with my gf when she was alive. My gf loved my mom, but my mom (an atheist & very traditional) wasn't too fond of my gf and suspicious of her sensitivities/psychic abilities. Now things are fine between the two...as weird as that may sound. I guess being on the "other side" allows us to become aware of & appreciate the "bigger picture" and to release some of our material/earthly attachments.

And I forgot to tell you before my last post that my gf is a devout Catholic (in faith)...hence the religious bent to her language...but not so much a doctrine-following believer or one who attends services, etc. She was born "Jewish" (her mom was Jewish) but raised Catholic as her mom converted to Catholicism because of her dad. So, despite her past-life memories, ET encounters/abductions, psychic & telepathic abilities, etc. she is in no way "new agey". Most people I have encountered with psychic abilities tend to be rather new agey I know...but she keeps to her faith & prays often...yet acknowledges and finds no conflict with her abilities that would otherwise contradict the theme & doctrines of most religions. She's also very down-to-earth, very traditional, and a natural skeptic (she has a hard time even buying a lot of the conspiracy theories out there that I follow..lol).

I myself don't follow any faith/belief system and in the past that's caused us to "clash" at times...mostly because of my somewhat condescending attitude towards those who follow a religious faith. (I didn't have issues with her abilities, but I did with her faith/beliefs.) But that was then (years ago)...this is now. I've grown & learned much since being with her and have no issues with her faith/beliefs. I have my path...she has hers. It's all good, as the saying goes.

No need to apologize at all my brother.

I really enjoyed reading your post. I take it that you're not a fan of organized religion but that you do believe in a creator, aka "God" as well as in life-after-death, correct?
I was raised Catholic. I was an altar boy and went to Catholic schools. Today, I virtually never go to mass and I don't necessarily agree with a lot of Catholic doctrine and I strongly dislike the current Pope. He is no John-Paul II.

The bible expressly forbids people from seeking out mediums and psychics. Apparently, demons can possess us through such means. I'd be curious to know your girlfriend's thoughts on that bible instruction as well as one being deceived by a demon assuming, that is, that she believes that they exist.

I should clarify that, while Jim and Matt didn't necessarily like one another, they never had words and it's not like they despised one another either. When together, they'd joke and get along just fine. It's just that, behind one another's back, they were critical. Both were right to be critical. Both had/have their faults. Ha ha. Anyway, I don't know that I believe that Jim was trying to communicate with Matt in order to heal a relationship. I think he wanted to let his mother, and the rest of us, know that the afterlife is real and that he is doing much better there, as he told Matt in his dream.

Anyway, I hope you'll ask your girlfriend about that bible teaching and talking to mediums, demons, etc. Thanks again!
