Trump used his first prime time address from the Oval Office as president to pitch the justification for shutting down the government over the wall directly to the people. The speech offered no new proposals and contained a whole host of misinformation that was repeatedly and explicitly fact checked before the speech and afterwards. Pelosi and Schumer also gave a speech in response wherein they called on Trump to immediately re-open the government and to stop holding the country hostage over the funding for the wall. Polling, to date, has shown that a plurality (and often, a majority) blame Trump for the shutdown, that they do not support the shutdown policy, and that they do not support the wall. And cracks are starting to show with an increasing number of Republicans in Congress and the Senate calling for the shutdown to end without a deal on the wall. So did Trump's speech change your opinion?
I didn't watch the speech, but have read about it and the Democratic response. I'm not in favor of "the wall" as such, but I do recognize that we need some repairs and replacements. The speech and the recent battle over the wall has not changed my mind. There is no option for my opinion.
I'm on the border and concede it's just not necessary for my part of the border (harsh terrain, large mountains and beyond that, no significant population centers for 100's of miles) and the President too, understands that, BUT there are places where a wall is absolutely necessary to secure the safety of US citizens.
He did not change my mind but Pelosi's speech afterwords convinced me that I really do not want her as the next president. She is almost as fake as Trump. Oh and I could not answer the poll because the wall just does not matter to me one way or the other. I see the benefits and the negatives of one and find it and its cost to be secondary to the over all immigration issue.
We need a wall because we have democrats who encourage illegal immigration by offering them goodies like free health care and welfare. If we don't secure the border with a barrier the caravans will turn into hordes and the hordes will turn into massive mobs and our country will be overrun which is the goal of the democrats.
I'm neither for or against the wall. I'm for controlling immigration, but I don't think that the wall is the best method to do that, although I do think it's a good method. I don't care how immigration is controlled. I, personally, think we need to raise the number of immigrants allowed, because legal immigrants have always been good for our economy. I also think we should deport criminal immigrants (after we imprison them).
Like down the middle of the Rio Grande?? This is what no one will tell this poor confused outlander - how are you going to build a wall without giving a big river away to Mexico
I am not kidding when I tell you that more than one right wing member on this board has said “Just build the wall down the middle of the river” when even the most cursory internet search will show that the FENCE they put in caused massive flooding
