    hmm

from the article. Seems straightforward to me

We wear masks, goggles, plastic gowns and gloves when we see our residents, and clean everything continuously, but in the last week 18 patients and staff have been infected. It’s worse than in March/April, when we had no masks.

If someone dies in a car crash despite wearing a seatbelt and with airbags, does that instantly prove those things don't work at all? Nobody has ever claimed that masks, social distancing or any of the other measures is any kind of magic guarantee to prevent any and all infection, they're presented as means of reducing the risk.

The overall level of risk, at both individual and community level, will be influenced by countless different factors so the fact people weren't infected in situations where certain measures weren't taken but were infected in situations where those measures were taken doesn't automatically prove those measures failed. It is perfectly possible that mask wearing doesn't actually have any significant benefit but claims that any of the observations raised here prove that is simply wrong.

Why don't they stop using them and then see what happens?

They are not better than nothing because they interfere with normal breathing. I have demonstrated that myself here at home, using N95 mask and my own oximeter. Wearing a mask is operating with a blocked airway to some degree.

They are not better than nothing because they are collectors of virus and bacteria we expel by way of normal respiration. I know two people told by their doctor that incessant mask wearing was contributing to their URI.

so if you ever get surgery, you will demand the doctors not wear masks?

should surgeons have the right not to wear them

You don't understand why surgeons wear face masks while operating, but that's OK. Some of us DO know why they do that.

That would be them literally working. Most of the claims that they don't work are based on the idea they let all the virus through.

There are legitimate clinical reasons for some people not to wear masks which are recognised. For a normally healthy adult using masks correctly, it will cause them no harm. Given that these kinds of masks have been used by millions of people in all sorts of environments for many, many years, if there was any general issue it would have ben identified a long time ago.

    Literally working? LOL

The common understanding about masks is that they protect the wearer from becoming infected. Yes, there is the propaganda angle that they protect those not wearing masks, but that's just brainwashing.

Interfering with normal respiration and collecting bacteria and germs 1 inch from your nose and mouth might seem like "working" for you, but not for me.

But people like you were saying that masks don't stop any viruses (viruses much too small) so how can a mask interfere with normal respiration given that oxygen molecules are hundreds of times smaller than viruses? And also any of that bacteria and germs that are collected 1 inch from your nose and mouth by a mask would have been in your nose and mouth without a mask

so you want to force them to wear a mask? why should it not be the surgeons choice?

next republicans will fight employers that have signs to wash their hands after they use the restrooms
