In that one side of the political divide (at the moment it seems to be the Democrats) abuses the court system to prosecute its' opponents for political ends?

I say yes, is not universal but it is a real and insidious tactic, from General Flynn to Donald Trump.

Hunter is getting his taste of "lawfare", and Republicans are trying to deploy the Supreme Court to bail out their leader.

People think it's a new term, but it's not. It was coined in the 1970s, and the practice goes back hundreds of years.

Watergate was followed by 48 convictions, and people cried and whined about it, but like Trump, they were busted and had to face the music.

I said yes, definitely, but it is done by both sides. It is a tactic to keep people distracted on inconsequential nonsense instead of focusing on how both parties are failing us while benefiting the uniparty.

Lawfare today is being used by the party in power to put their thumb on the scale and deny the voting public a fair election.
Democrats are not satisfied with having to relying on voter fraud. They want the whole enchilada.
Does anyone doubt the democrats would pull a coup and take over the country for keeps?

Sure. The GOP is in power (the house), which is why Hunter is facing the music.

I'm afraid pretty much everyone doubts that. So far only Republicans have tried a violent takeover

Let's see what would happen to you if you collected millions of dollars and never reported it to the IRS.

When did the Republicans "rig the system." Trump had a stupid idea about the vice president, Pence, refusing the Electoral College vote, but that was shot down before it got a foot off the ground.

That's not what the trial is about. Besides, I don't give a rats ass what they do to him. Lock 'im up for all I care.

As for the tax thing in CA, he should face the music for that too, although he has already paid the tax + penalties. Likewise, Trump needs to face the music for all his crimes.

They rigged it in 2020. They are literally the only one who were busted for it.

Hunter should have been tried and convicted of the gun charges years ago but instead the Prosecutor was going to accept a sham plea deal until a judge put a stop to that. Justice was served not lawfare. Hunter lied on a federal document and signed it while telling the world he was using illegal drugs.

Yes, along with thousands of others who are not prosecuted for it. Now his father is the POTUS, so they went after him. Better late than never, I suppose.

Yes, that was his crime and he got busted. Now he'll face the music. Likewise, Trump will face the music for his crimes.

    Lock 'em both up!

lets be honest, the right would be screaming lawfare if Trump made a plea deal and the judge denied it

So now that the DOJ has confirmed Hunter’s laptop is legit there is evidence of other crimes committed by Hunter like sex traffic. He had prostitutes he admitted to paying their way from California to Delaware. At least two charges are evident with that. Of course his tax fraud case is coming in September. What defense does he have for those charges? He was on drugs?

It exists to an extent, but both right across and beyond politics, with personal or professional divisions being a factor too. It can also as often involve avoiding investigation or prosecution of allies as it does targeting enemies.

Regardless, as long as there is a largely independent and well regulated legal system (which the US still mostly has), no amount of political influence is likely to take an entirely innocent individual through to a conviction. This is more often about technically guilty people who might not have been brought to court (be that for legitimate reasons or not). That doesn't make it right of course, but do reveal a fairly obvious way to significantly minimise the risk of becoming a target yourself.

The vast majority of people who are aware of Hunter’s gun conviction believe the charges were legit. Whereas half of those folks disagree with Trump’s charges. That says a lot.

Yes, it says everything you need to know about the cult mindset of Trump followers, vs others who accept the reality without trying to insert conspiracy into it.

If both and Trump and Hunter request an appeal only one has a good chance of getting an appeal. Trump. Many defense lawyers on the left believe Trump will get an appeal. I haven't heard one lawyer say this about Hunter's conviction.

you don't think the Republican SC will say the GUN law was too vague and doesn't specify a time frame

only thing Trump has going for him is if that Facebook poster was really a cousin of a Juror

I have seen impartial DOJ's in the past. Garland is very Partisan. I believe he should be prosecuted if for nothing else but ignoring a subpoena. He should join Bannon and Navarow. If there is no turn around,no lesson learned.
