I've always loved coffee. My favorite is a Vietnamese variety which I purchase in bulk from Berres Brothers Coffee of Watertown Wisconsin. Strong with nutty undertones. But over the past 6 months I've developed an affection for tea as my beverage of choice. My favorites are both English, of course. Scottish Breakfast Tea from Taylor's of Harrowgate and Irish Breakfast Tea from Twinnings of London. Both are strong and excellent bodied teas. I'm interested in what your favorite non-alcoholic beverage is.
I quite coffee about a year ago. Now I drink tea. No idea why I started drinking tea. In the evenings I have a cup or two. I do not know much about fancy stuff, I buy the variety box from the grocery store
See if your store stocks Twinnings or Taylors teas. Most do. If they have the English or Irish variety of breakfast tea give one a try. They're a little more expensive then the generics (Lipton, Salada) but well worth the cost. You won't be disappointed.
I start the day with coffee, then go straight to iced tea. Unsweet. It's the best thirst quencher around. I like some of the hot teas also.
I'm usually in surgery in the early mornings so I abstain from coffee or tea until we finish, usually til about noon.
It's a seasonal thing for me. I'll drink coffee during the winter, and won't touch it when it's summer time. On the other hand, I can't say I have drank what the English consider tea. If ice counts, then I drink it all the time.
I like both. Iced tea for thirst and coffee to wake up. I like Gevalia coffee and Arizona southern style iced tea, at the present time.
I like both. Which I have depends on things like of time of day, where I am who I with. I will always have coffee when out. I drink tea at home mostly Barry's (we are a Barry's family). Sometimes Assam or Earl Grey. I have begun to drink herbal teas. Heath and Heather does a nice Liquorice and oriental spice tisane. Suki's apple loves mint is amazing but I haven't been able to get it in Tea bags so you need an infuser. Almost anything from Twinings is good, Nettle and Mint or Camomile are my staples but their mixed boxes are lovely.
You'll have too excuse my ignorance, but do you happen too put milk in your tea? If so, what's that do for the flavor?
In Barry's or Assam yes. I don't drink tea* without milk, I don't believe that the blends commonly drunk in Ireland (Barry's or Lyon's) are meant to be drunk without milk. I drink them with milk mostly because when my granny first gave me a cup, which was far before I can remember, there was milk in it. Almost everyone drinks tea with milk here. What does it do to the flavour? It sort of softens it. I can't really describe it. Try it yourself, it probably won't kill you . I only half fill my cup with tea and then fill to the top with milk but most people will go 3/4 or more tea. *The exception is Earl Grey which is a rarity, with a slice of lemon or I won't have it. You never put milk in a herbal tea the flavours are too delicate.
I drink a great deal of coffee, at home I usually have a really strong and full bodied blend, and when I am out and about, in a coffee shop its usually double espresso. For tea, well here in England we usually have it with milk, my favourite is Kenyan tea really well brewed with just a little milk and some sugar..mmm right I have to put the kettle on.
I'm no connoisseur in relation to coffee but don't like it bitter. The sweeter the better, so I'm open to suggestions. I'm not much better when it comes to tea either, since I can't stand tea-bags or leaves and consequently drink powdered tea from Typhoo QT.
Hi Beevee, I could suggest Lavazza "Rossa" for you. It is more a light roast, less strong, for American/Canadian style coffee, as apposed to the stronger Italiano espressos. To your taste, you can add natural sugar or honey... or perhaps a nice shot of amaretto.
Coffee from pods, at home. With a splash of milk, no sugar. I use this: I like to vary the type, sometimes Cafe Lungo, Cafe Americano, cappuccino...w/e ...I buy my staple Lungo or Americano and A.N. Other to try. That machine is quicker than using a kettle to boil water. It's more convenient. It does cold drinks also, but we don't have much call for that here. No one else drinks coffee, so it's not worth using a filter or going to all that trouble just for one. At work, it's still coffee but maybe 2 cups over the whole day and that is instant Nescafe Original, or else just cold water. I've tried other brands, but don't like them. I drink tea with milk also. It's good if you have an upset tummy btw, really settles it. Being native UK like Beevee and raised when everyone drank tea, making tea from scratch went out of fashion 30 years ago and almost everyone uses teabags now. I like the taste of Tetley (is that an advertising jingle?). I do though. Not so keen on other teas. I always use skimmed milk, don't like full fat and hate cream. I used to drink Twinings, but I don't like black tea or coffee and Twinings teas just taste like black to me, even when its fruity. Harsh. Camomile is not very tasty, a lot of their flavours just taste herbal and I don't enjoy that. In Morocco they drink mint tea. That isn't bad.
