The only reason Marijuana is illegal clearly is thanks to the Beer and Pharmaceutical Lobbies keeping it that way so their sales aren't impacted.

Beer sales are already down by a huge percentage in states that have legalized it.

Beer Industry Could Lose $2 Billion From Legal Marijuana

It has absolutely ZERO to do with law and order and all the other nonsensical claims. Most law enforcement openly acknowledge it's less dangerous than alcohol and that marijuana being illegal creates more crime via financing cartels and criminal gangs than anything else.

Think about it. An alcoholic is dangerous. Extremely so. The alcohol deaths prove it statistically every year.

A Marijuana user just sits on a couch and becomes a much better person socially while high. Literally no deaths from it whatsoever.

Just out of curiosity, where did you learn that the Supreme Court is responsible for passing amendments to the constitution?

For the most part I agree, but to be fair some people are killed while high due to poor choices made while impaired so it is a stretch to say "Literally no deaths from it whatsoever.". I would say literally no deaths caused by an overdose. How many people do something stupid while high which causes death? I do not know, but I assume it is far lower than the number of people killed by people who drink then do something stupid like drive.

It is an unimportant issue that has been made important by government over reach and weed users. Frankly i hope it is completely legalized so I never have to hear about it again.

First, we can't legalize it--we are signatories to a treaty that makes it illegal. That said, I do think we need to reschedule it for medical use.

I have to disagree. Being drunk is far more dangerous than being high. A person as high as they can get and a person as drunk as they can get, the drunk person is radically more dangerous to themselves and others and far more aggressive than the high person who is simply super social, super happy and not aggressive at all, the opposite actually.

The stats prove it. There are no statistical stats available on Marijuana deaths each year because there aren't any that are directly related to marijuana. That is not true for alcohol.

If anything marijuana prevents violent individuals from committing crimes whereas alcohol increases exponentially the chance for violence, such is why alcoholics are so dangerous. You never hear of the "Dangerous Stoner" for a reason..There's no such thing.

I used to think Marijuana was this insanely bad thing. Now, at 29, having started vaping it just recently for the first time, I can say several things emphatically so, having been an arch nemesis of Marijuana my entire life.

-In 29 years of life, the last year has been the best and most happiest I've ever been in my life thanks to Marijuana.

-My crushing depression is gone. The void-full pain in my stomach is gone after 29 years thanks to vaping Marijuana.

    -I am happier.

-My outlook on life is better.

    -Food tastes better!!!!!!

-Any and all drinks taste BETTER!!!!!! Especially sweet drinks.

-Music is better. Movies are better. TV is better. Everything is better.

-Sex is better!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEX IS BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    -Anything sexual is BETTER!!!!

-Even after 20-40 minutes to an hour after the high has worn off, I am still a happier, nicer, better person.

-I am more open minded and not sad how the world is but happy how the world is now. It has helped me. It has made me a better human. It helps me. Nothing I have ever found, not alcohol, not over the counter pills, not meds, not some ******* doctor prescribing me pills who clearly cares nothing for my depression, not ANYTHING has done this for me in 29 years. The first time I got high I could not believe the feeling was possible. The crushing void like a train constantly crashing into you inside was instantly removed. It is simply the best thing I have ever found. My super apex personality has been toned down a bit, my edge has been taken off and I like it. In my time vaping it I have experienced feelings I had never experienced before in a very good way. I'm more social and outgoing and not pent up and reserved. My mind no longer races with thoughts.

Was the question you posed an attempt at humor? He clearly stated "they needed a constitutional amendment" ... "they" being the congress who enacted prohibition. He then asked whether the SCOTUS had enacted a marijuana prohibition without a constitutional amendment.

I agree that "Being drunk is far more dangerous than being high." So what is our disagreement about?

Perhaps no stats, but there are news reports of people who die while stoned and at least in part due to their intoxication.
    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/two-denver-deaths-tied-to-recreational-marijuana-use/

Source citation needed for the above claim if argued as a fact.

Not hearing of something does not imply that said something never happens.
    http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-cannabis-homicide-20160531-snap-story.html

I hope that you do not see me as an adversary as I am a pot user and a supporter of legalization. But if we do not objectively acknowledge the negatives of marijuana, then this leaves us open to claims of being biased which hurts our cause rather than helping it. Trying to make pot appear as perfectly safe goes against the data, and just because alcohol is far more dangerous does not diminish the risk factors involved in using marijuana. Get your facts straight because if you spread misinformation you hurt the cause.

Is your post an attempt at humor? Where did he ask "whether the SCOTUS had enacted a marijuana prohibition without a constitutional amendment."?

If he had asked that, my question would have been: "Just out of curiosity, where did you learn the Supreme court enacts laws?"

I understand your concerns. However they are trivial and I will go into why below (I don't mean to offend you or any other more tenured stoners, pot advocates, or any other faction, but I still know your concerns are trivial in the grand scheme of things and here is why).

Marijuana is pervasive among Millennials and lower gens. To such an extent that any concern on the left or right about whether in the next 20 years it will be legal nation wide in some form are totally trivial. Short term they may sound sophisticated and have merit if you have a business and want to tone down rhetoric but ultimately the question of whether it will be legal nation wide in the next 10-20 years was made the second medical marijuana and rec marijuana were legalized in states. It's only a matter of time now. The only thing preventing legalization nation wide is people over 65 and in the next 20 years most of them will pass and when they do boom, near-instant legalization. It's assured. I know it is because the under 40 gens of this country are for all out legalization right now. The culture has shifted beyond return on the issue. All that stops it is baby boomers over 65. And they don't have long on earth to put it charitably.

When I argue with the Austin stoners who lecture me on not following the etiquette rules on 420 and how I don't respect the pipe and how I and others are terrible because we went straight to vape, percolators, oil, edibles, my response is always the same to them that it is to you (and one just came and smoked me up so I know I'm right and she admitted as much). Listen to yourselves. The battle is won. ATX stoners lecturing........STONERS on RULES on GETTING HIGH!??! Could there be anything more ironic and illogical? (No). You and they have to embrace the fact that when it is legalized, and it will be in short order, ALL the rules, all the little "Nazi-Esq-ATX-Hippie-Communist-Stoner-Rules" will go by the wayside because everyone will have a vape, a perc bong, an oil pen overnight. Any "rules" or "Tone that down" stuff will simply be made irrelevant. It will be legal FFS and every other other person will be "Breaking the olden stoners rules left and right" if anybody even remembers them at that point.

You and others have to fully embrace the fact that future marijuana users are going to start with zero respect for "420 culture". I'm 29. I just started. I do not respect your 420 socialite rules and or history. To me it is medicine, I have a right to it and it is not "The ATX/Cali/Col Hippie Communist Left's Dominion" nor do I care about vapid corporate short-term "tone it down" babble as it is going to be legalized and I know it is because big pharma is already internally prepping for legalization and they run the country politically so that means legalization is assured. What I'm saying is, you may as well enjoy the progression of it and not worry. Nothing the conservatives or any other faction can do at this point can turn the tides. It's assured.

I do not see people dying as trivial, and I am betting our opponent do not see it as trivial either. You are not going to win over those who are against pot by trivializing those who die as a result of using pot. It is for this reason that I educate myself on the facts so I can objectively argue the pros and cons of marijuana as opposed to placing forward an easily falsifiable narrative like "pot is safe".

    I agree.

And this has what to do with anything I have said? I take it you are using me as a proxy to vent some frustration you have with stoners that you know? Whatever pot culture drama you are caught up in, I am not caught up in it.

My opinion is that it should be decriminalized on the federal level, and each individual state should decide if it should be legal or illegal in their own states.

You missed the entire point of my post.

**** "Having to win people over". That is over. It is trivial. It is going to be legalized soon enough. It is safer than alcohol by every statistic known. You are, no offense, stuck on this hangup of "winning people over" when that is now entirely pointless. You do not seem to grasp the forces in motion that actually control pot being legal.

Idiot stoners, small business, social conservatives, none of those people are why marijuana has been illegal for decades. Big business is the sole reason pot is illegal. It's a money issue and protecting profits issue. The alcohol industry, tobacco and big pharma have been keeping it illegal but are now going to switch their profits towards marijuana and run that sector. (Which is great news for pot advocates).

Marijuana being illegal has never been about social conservative influence, winning people over or any other mask big pharma, tobacco and the beer industry have peddled. They peddle that **** politically via their lobbies. It's all fake. They keep it illegal intentionally. Now they are positioning to control it hence it will soon be legalized.

If it is over then why did you start this thread where you solicit the views of others then dismiss them as "trivial"? Perhaps you should change the title of the thread from "Do you think Marijuana should be Legalized Federally in the US?" to "It is going to be legalized soon enough."

You've been completely misinformed by whatever sources you get your information from.

The Supreme Court had little to do with the passage of the 18th amendment. It was passed by Congress and ratified by the States, mostly through the efforts of conservative groups like fundamentalist Christians who were prohibitionists.

Well but you do acknowledge that's likely, yes?

There's no harm in merely pointing that out is all I'm saying. There's no right way to talk about it.

I voted NO because the ******ned bastards make me sick. I would have no problem with people smoking marijuana, if they kept it indoors, but the bastards seem to think that EVERYONE wants to smell that crap.
