In my opinion, there is no American nation and no American religion, and thus any patriotism is superficial. Being an American is not a big part of anyone's identity. Most Russians identify with Russia by state, ethnicity (Russian) and religion (Orthodox Christian). Most Jews (myself included) are Jews by ethnicity and religion. Americans have many ethnicities and religions. I am Jewish -- I never was Russian and never became an American.

American Indians and African Americans have nothing to be grateful for to USA. Many ``European Americans" and Asian Americans are descendants of recent immigrants or are immigrants themselves -- they would relate much more to their country of origin then to USA.

    Your whole argument is flawed.
Canada and Australia are the same as the US - and they are nations and have patriots as does the US.
What on earth does religion have to do with nationhood/patriotism?
    Silly.

I guess some very light US patriotism exists.

For ethnic Russians, Russian is their ethnicity, and their faith (Orthodox Christian) as well as their country. For me, being Jewish is not just ethnicity but Faith in G-d.

USA, Canada, and Australia have many ethnicities and religions.

Jewish is not a nationality, and religion has zero to do with nationality - France, Germany have several varieties of protestant, catholics, and they are far more secular than the US is.
My parents were immigrants and very patriotic - they CHOSE to be Americans - most people are in the country they are in as an accident of birth.
I don't see what point you are trying to make and I see no tie to religion and nationhood or patriotism.

I came to USA in 1983 at age 13 with my family. I do not like many things about USA, but some are OK.

In any case, as a Jew I am neither Russian nor an American.

In the Age of Trump, "Patriotism" doesn't even matter.

Any country with a Constitution that could facilitate the election of an EGREGIOUSLY UNPREPARED IMBECILE (Trump), doesn't deserve to have "Patriotic Citizens".

In many ways Democrats are worse then Republicans.

But Republicans are not perfect by far.

There used to be true patriotism among Americans, despite the diversity of ethnicity and religion.

Back in the 1950's and 1960's, the US was overwhelmingly White with a small minority of Blacks. The Whites could cohere around their Whiteness despite being of different European origins.

And the lack of a common religion was replaced by what sociologists call American Civil Religion

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_civil_religion

The Left is out to destroy both the Whiteness of the US and its civil religion.

The latest salvo against patriotism is it deconstruction.

There was sort of patriotism at that time, but never nearly as strong as in monoethnic and monoreligious nations. I am not really "white" -- I am Jewish.

You are probably right. The sort of patriotism generated by having your great-grandfather buried in your native land is much stronger than can be found in the US.

Definitely -- patriotism is strengthened by religion and ethnicity.

Native Americans and African Americans have a lot to be grateful to the USA over. Not their distant ancestors.

So, what are you? Your messages are malcontented, but what are you since you brought up the topic. A sovereign citizen of no citizenship?

How can anyone be expected to be "patriotic" or "pro-USA" as long as an IMBECILE (Trump) is in charge?

Maybe you dont know what the word patriotism means? Because as you have applied it makes no sense. You can be from other places and still be patriotic as it pertains to the country you have moved to. In fact recent immigrants are often MORE patriotic then the average citizen.

I understand. Your point is that you must have a leader that you worship as your government God of absolute power and exactly no one else matters, correct?

What? The President is not this country. You and I are this country. I'm patriotic because I love the fact that you can wake up in the morning, go to work, eat whatever you want, and drink whatever you want when you get home. You can buy a car, you can buy a gun, and you can protest whatever you want.

I see your point, my brother.

But, to be completely honest, America let me down by facilitating the. election of Trump

Since Trump got elected, my "Patrtiotism" mostly revolves around Tom Brady.

I don't get it. Of course there is American patriotism. My family, on both sides has been in this country over 200 years and we have no attachments or sentiments to any foreign country. We're Americans. That's not just our citizenship, it's our nationality and culture. I realize it's very common for people who hate or at least are indifferent to the US to not understand that, but just because American patriotism is incomprehensible to you doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Nothing wrong with that. No President, in my opinion, well ever live up to Brady's leadership anyway.

Thank you for sharing. After 200 years, you can identify as ethnically American.

I am ethnically Jewish -- I was not Russian and I did not become American.

USA is both multicultural and multi religious.

After 16 years of Idiot Bush and Idiot Obama, and unending 'adventures' in the Middle East and Afghanistan, American patriotism is almost wiped out. Half our population is sucking one kind of welfare or another out of the government, and nobody seems to care much about anything anymore except grabbing as much "free stuff" as they can. Spiritually, we are on a definite downhill trajectory and there's no end in sight....

    "My country, 'tis of ME,
crap that I get for FREE...
    For ME I sing!

You state you have faith in G-D, then why can't you say you have faith in God?

You're right that there is no "American religion". That's one of the things I like about America.

You may feel that way, but that does not mean that the patriotism of others is superficial, and it does not mean that being an American is not a big part of anyone's identity. One of the things that makes me patriotic about America is that, as a US citizen, you don't have to feel the same way as I do. Try that in North Korea and see where it gets you.
