In 2004, one of the States in the USA had undergone a audit of their DOE, or School system. They concluded that after 3 years of Audit, they could not account for several billions of dollars of school spending, and the posted results of the audit only showed rounded off numbers, because, they were just estimates, and no actual amounts could be identified.

The Auditor suspected mass fraud and was soon released from her job.

In another US State, in 2010, a news crew staked out some school distric workers and found them abusing overtime and reported it to the school district. And nothing was resolved by the school district, they declined to comment.

Does this kind of fraud and taxpayer waste go on in your area?

If California has 6.5 million students in public school and they spend $10000 on each, that would be a total of about $65 billion each year. How accurate is this data? And how much do they borrow each year to make up for the actual funding?

I'm sure there is plenty of fraud in their system, its simply too big not to have any.

I'd say scrap the whole department and either come up with a new system and a fresh start or just turn it over to the States.

Any significant changes to the department is always blocked by the teachers unions though and politicians don't have the balls to stand up to them.

    Here's just one example:
In the USA, federal, state, and local governments spent a total of $175 million dollars in the year 2008 subsidising those spiral "energy efficient" CFLs. Many consumers only bought the CFL's in the stores because they were being sold for $1 or $2 dollars each, despite the fact it was costing taxpayer several additional dollars to subsidise each one.

Whether these "energy efficinet" bulbs actually reduced energy consumption for consumers in the northern half of the USA is debatable, since presumably many conusmers just turned up the settings on their heaters to compensate for the heat they were no longer getting at night. Instead of each bulb specifically heating the individal room someone was using, people would have had to use their heaters to raise the temperature in their entire house.

In the UK, a Tesco 11 watt CFL was being sold for around 50 pence when bought in the stores a few years ago. Then after the incandescent light bulb ban, the government didn't have to subsidise them anymore, and now they are being sold for about £4 each. Few of us had any idea how heavily these CFLs were beings subsidised, or how much they were actually costing the taxpayers, until we actually saw the change in prices.

In some States the education budget and accounting is so top secret, nobody can get into any details or evidence. It is well gaurded. In other states, the accounting practices are so corrupt and misleading, State government accounting offices can't get a clear anser or any data from the Department Of Education. that is how bad the public schools are in the USA.

I just hope other countries do the same and use the USA as a model for education. So they too can be as bad as the US public schools.

And hopefully their public education systems will dumb up their population, and bankrupt their countries.

Hey, the USA public school model of education is a secret weapon for global colonialization.
