    There is boorish there is insensitive and then there is being a complete and utter Twonk!!! Sorry but I find comments like this very hard to justify but I suppose some will.

    President Trump told the widow of a Green Beret who died in Niger that the soldier “knew what he signed up for … but when it happens it hurts anyway” during a phone call on Tuesday.

    The widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson received the five-minute call from Trump, Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson told The Post, one day after the commander in chief falsely suggested that former President Barack Obama did not phone the families of fallen soldiers.


    “They were astonished,” Wilson said about the Florida family’s reaction. “It was almost like saying, ‘You signed up to do this, and if you didn’t want to die, shouldn’t have signed up.’ ”

    Wilson said the widow, Myeshia Johnson, spoke to Trump for about five minutes and her only words were “thank you” at the end of the conversation.

    “I wanted to curse him out,” Wilson said of Trump. “I asked the family to give me the phone so that I could, but they wouldn’t.”

    Sgt. Johnson had been a member of a mentorship program started by the congresswoman.

    A White House official later said, “The president’s conversations with the families of American heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice are private.”

    Myeshia, who is pregnant with the couple’s third child, collapsed in tears on her husband’s flag-draped coffin at Miami International Airport Tuesday.

    Most concerning is that this kind of remark is usually the hallmark of the type of General who wastes the lives of his own soldiers

    I am finding it difficult to accept that people accept and even condone this

    Imagine if Obama had said this......

    No one signs up to die, you sign up to fight for your country and accept that you may die in the process.

    no... dying is not what he signed up for, he signed up for America and it's people

    I think Trump watched suicide squad and now he thinks he knows what the military stands for

    Quite so. What the anti-Trump crowd don't understand is that Obama et al didn't mean a word of what they said to the widows, so their empty rhetoric and the crocodile tears did nothing other than make them hypocrites.

    It reminds me of some of the British Generals at Gallipoli where they thought so little of the lives of the "colonials" that they were willing to squander them like disposable soldiers

    that's exactly what Trump is like... minus the war experience... it is also the reason he tells Tillerson he's wasting his time trying to stop a war on the Korean Peninsula, Trump does not care how many people or American soldiers die, they signed up to die according to him... just get on with the job of dying

    I think this is everyone's abiding worry that he will act like some of the more notoriously bad generals of history. More concerned with looking good or trying to prove a point than in winning a war

But it reminds me of when we had our guys coming home in body bags, and at the beginning of every parliamentary session there were weasel words of such crap as 'Our hearts and prayers go out to their loved ones.' and minutes later - after they'd got it out of the way? - they were making jokes and laughing their heads off, loathesome, uncaring hypocrites that they are.

    Humour does have a place along side sorrow and it IS human but even if you consider words of condolence " weasel words" they are still the morally, ethically and socially correct thing to do
